Who else thinks this movie looks awesome? I love Danny Boyle and Cillian Murphey, and the extended trailer was damn interesting.

(Warning:Extended trailer has MAJOR MAJOR spoilers.)

July 20th for the win!

It's been out in England for soooooooo long, but I've held off watching it until it's imported here. I'm with you, this film looks awesome! (although the viewer reviews I've read have been less than kind)

I finally saw this tonight. I FRICKIN LOVED IT!

First, it's a beautiful movie to look at. The special effects work for the film, the sets are fantastic, the cinematography is gorgeous. Second, it's like 28 Days Later in terms of already being a good movie and then having an intense action packed final third. I know 28 Days Later got crap for that and this film got it too. But I dig the semi-genre change in both of them. This felt like one of the best sci-fi films I've seen in too long a time. Actually, it felt like a good version of "Event Horizon".

Plus, it's kinda like the Poseidon Adventure. Razz

God, I fucking hate the final act of 28 Days Later. It's like Boyle realized he almost had a well-made film and then intentionally decided to ruin it. At least when Romero's Land of the Dead had the benefit of being consistently horrible from the start, so there no letdown.

I'm sick of cynical, self-righteous liberal nutjobs using the zombie genre as a subtext for their political beliefs. If that's the sort of film you want to make, do a futuristic dystopia film because a) they're able to incorporate such subtexts seamlessly, b) they don't get done as much as zombie movies, and c) they're fucking awesome.

I liked Sunshine, but there was a whole lot of stuff that kept me from loving it. Way too many times where they didn't feel the need to explain what's going on or why.

And the last act was unbelievably disappointing.

It was more like a good version of Solar Crisis.

Syd, have you seen the "alternate" final act of 28 Days Later on the DVD?

I thought the beginning of it was actually pretty sweet, even though it was basically the plot of Armageddon, but in the future, and not a meteor. The last 30 minutes were horrible.

I still don't understand what people have against action. And smart action to boot. -_-

Edit: Syd, I still don't know why you think Land of the Dead is horrible, that movie kicks ass. Dead Reckoning is the Serenity of zombie tanks.

I haven't, DarkMaze. It's probably about time I NetFlixed it.

Speaking of NetFlix, the Blockbuster down the street from my house just went out of business.

Cause they rape you for rentals. I go to Family video. $0.50 rentals $1.06 for new releases. Rented 8 movies last night for $4.53. Fuck Blockbuster, they are the reason I'm back in college.

I can't understand any of that. We have a Family Video where I'm from. I'd get the half price rentals deal. Then, I'd get the fifty cent movies. So I was renting for a quarter a pop. I'd go home with six movies for a buck and a half. Where I live now, Fucking Hollywood Video charges over two bucks for an old movie. Blockbuster in my town sucks. They don't have shit. I go to Hastings. Its not as cheap as Family Video was, but they are the cheapest in town. If you return the movie the same day or some shit, you get credit added to your account. Pretty cool. They also have the best selection in town. I can't figure how places like Hollywood Video can continue to raw dog their customers. There is a Family Video in the next town. So I hope they come here next. I would bet money that those jack offs and Hollywood Video still don't lower their prices. Fuck them.

I grew up with Blockbuster so I'm customer of theirs forever. Plus, I bought Sunshine there as a part of 4 for $20 sale. Besides BB I rely on Redbox. I've yet to give online rentals a try.

down here in az, they have these vending machine type things outside of safeway and walgreens, where you can rent DVD's for $1. i forget what they are called, but they are in a big red vending machine. you have to pay w/your debit and you can only rent them for one day, and every day after its $.99. so its not too bad a deal.
