Rambo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCKIN' AROUND RAM RAM RAM RAM RAM RAM RAMBO god didn't make rambo I made him.
The movie was good. Go see it. If you liked First Blood but didn't like the contrived poo-poo plot devices of the second and third movies but enjoyed the action, this should be just right for you.

				Three syllables:
 A-MA-ZING.

I never saw the original Rambos, but I can vouch this was fucking awesome.

I felt the same sort of awe for Rambo I did as a youngling. I also felt like I needed a cig after the movie was over, it was just so violent, bloody, and...perfect. I wish more movies would go this graphic in their violence.

Yeah, it had the best war movie violence since Saving Private Ryan, except it was even more awesome.

				I FINALLY saw it!

So good. It's definitely a call back to First Blood rather than the sequels. Even a line of dialogue kind of skips over the sequels, but sense Rambo is still in Thailland, we know they still happened.
I loved the darker, more serious tone of the film. Even when Rambo turns his kill on, the film remains partially realistic. There's a lot of CG gore, but I was not turned off by it, because it is so INTENSE that if they had done the practical gore I am sure this film would've gotten a NC-17. There's also a lot of Gladiator style undercranking going on, but whatever. I also thought the opening sequences improved on Rambo III by showing us exactly how bad Burma is.

A highlight of the film is a dream Rambo has that uses footage of the trilogy... and... THE ORIGINAL ENDING TO FIRST BLOOD! OMG! That alone made the film a six... thousand star film.

I will say that to me the only downside was that it feels TOO SHORT! But I loved the ending. If there isn't another Rambo, I think it ended in a good place. Well done, Stallone.

I saw it tonight too and I have to agree w/Tebor, the movie felt cut real short.
I enjoyed it, even w/all the limb tossing flying around the screen, I thought it was a great action film. I enjoyed it a lot better than Die Hard 4. Both movies were over the top imo but Rambo was just easier to digest.

 Thumbs up from me

I found out that the flies buzzing around the corpses in the scene where the mercs find the village were all animated.

It was filmed in my semi-area in a little town called Hope. Hope is literally just one street, and one side of that street is the Fraser River. It's the shittiest town in existence, and Rambo is the only thing it has going for it. Roffle.

I finally saw this movie tonight. You all probably have read my rants about remakes and sequels, like this, that are made like 20 years later. I'm very vocal about it. I've also said they don't always fail. Just usually. This is why I never think it should be attempted unless the film makers are sure about it. Let this movie be a template on how to do it the right way.
 On to the movie.

This movie was fucking so unbelievably awesome. I think Murder really nailed it in the OP. I actually thought it did a better job in capturing and combining the elements from First Blood and Rambo III better than Rambo: First Blood Part II. What I mean is that First Blood had lots of emotion. It was deep without really having to say a whole lot. You just knew. By Rambo III, it was nothing more than a high body count, one man army, insane shoot 'em up action movie. Don't get me wrong, I loved it. But it was polar opposite of First Blood.

The second movie, Rambo: First Blood Part II was the perfect segue, not only in style, but in name. This was like a metamorphosis from First Blood to Rambo for the series. IMO, Rambo (the new one) still had the action of Rambo III, but completed the circle by taking us back to the feel and emotion of First Blood. Even the last scene in the movie was symbolic of completing the circle. I also really liked the darkness this movie had to it.

I also wanted to point out that I like the way it highlights the problems in Burma without feeling like a feature length PSA. When movies start out the way this one did, you never can tell until it gets farther into the movie.

I read that Sly is in the process of writing Rambo V. I hope he really thinks long and hard about whether or not its worth it. If he decides it is, I hope it is done with the same passion as this one was. After seeing this, I have faith that it can be done.

That's what made it so awful. First Blood Part II still had some of the seriousness of First Blood without actually delivering anything that could be taken serious. Rambo III at least didn't have any illusions about itself. The fourth one was pure awesomeness though. I hope the fifth one will be as good.

I read somewhere that a lot of the cast were survivors of said villages and had trouble acting out some of the parts as soldiers because it was too similar to what actually had gone down.
EDIT: I forgot I am dumb, so I more likely saw it on TV somewhere than read it.

I finally saw this last Wednesday. I bought the DVD the day it came out, but didn't get around to watching it til then.
Very good, definitely felt a little short though. I would have liked a little bit more epilogue, perhaps another scene with Sarah. An early draft of the Rambo IV script had Rambo quietly living in an isolated Midwest town with a wife and daughter, then one day his daughter gets kidnapped and he's forced to use former skills to rescue her. I believe the reason they didn't use this script is because it was a little too close to Death Wish, which Stallone was hoping to remake at one point. If Stallone doesn't get the rights to Death Wish, perhaps they could reuse that plot for Rambo V.

In one of the featurettes on the DVD, they said that the guy who played Major Tint (the bad guy leader) fought with the Karen Freedom Fighters ("If crime fighters fight crime, and fire fighters fight fires, what do freedom fighters fight?" - George Carlin). They said that by just being in the movie (buying, selling, and viewing of this movie in Burma will get you jail time), he not only put himself in danger, but also there was the risk of his family most likely being sent to prison. But he insisted on being a part of it anyways.

Yes, he is and appropriately enough he plays a missionary.

I love how Stallone surrounded himself with TV stars like Chappelle and Darla.

I think the epitome of awesomeness in this movie was when Rambo was forging his own blade, and the excitement and wonderment of anticipating how he was going to fuck people up with his newly forged steel death device.
