I was wondering if anyone has a theory on why Monopoly causes arguments?

"The bourgeoisie, wherever it has got the upper hand, has put an end to all feudal, patriarchal, idyllic relations. It has pitilessly torn asunder the motley feudal ties that bound man to his "natural superiors," and has left remaining no other nexus between man and man than naked self-interest, than callous "cash payment." It has drowned the most heavenly ecstasies of religious fervour, of chivalrous enthusiasm, of philistine sentimentalism, in the icy water of egotistical calculation. It has resolved personal worth into exchange value, and in place of the numberless and feasible chartered freedoms, has set up that single, unconscionable freedom--Free Trade. In one word, for exploitation, veiled by religious and political illusions, naked, shameless, direct, brutal exploitation."

okay.

monopoly is a long ass boring game. the only reason peopel still paly it is because theres always that one relative that gives it to someoen as a gift, which then prompts one asshole friend t osay "come on man, we NEVER finish a game of monopoly!"

during the fifth hour of play, it gets boring. people start cheating jsut to get it over. this leads to fighting, violence, and then everyone jsut saying "fuck it, I don't want to play anymore!"

I've never lost a game of Monopoly. I had one no contest when I went crazy and flipped the board with all the pieces into the air.

The reason people get pissed, is because people come over to your house and want to play by their house rules. Well FUCK YOU. This is my house. We play by MY house rules. If I say Free Parking isn't automatically replentished when somebody cleans it out, it doesn't mean its okay for you to take it out of the bank anyways.

If you don't like my house rules, take your yacht and go home.

But don't get me wrong. I go to other people's houses and I play by their house rules. I don't complain. In fact, I usually enjoy myself. After all, everybody plays it just slightly different. Which is fine. But I grew up playing it a certain way. It wasn't MY way. Its the way my family always played it. I'm not gonna change it because one stooge doesn't play like that at his house.

I think that Hungry Hungry Hippos leads to more violence than Monopoly.

That's anger for different reasons though. I piss others off when I play Scrabble, because I rule. Cool

Risk > Monpoly though I can never find anyone to play Risk. They always say stuff like: "Risk? Nah I can't play it'll take to long" or "What? We'll still be playing in three days from now."

But any fucking person will play Monopoly. They'll say: "Monopoly? Yeah sure I love that game." Then 3 hours into the game they'll say "Fuck you this game sucks!"

What made me angry was that you rarely got to use the trap. I didn't really give a fuck about the actual game. All I wanted was to see the trap mechanism in action.

So about 15 years ago I'm playing Monopoly with my sister and her friend and I had Boardwalk and Park Place with Hotels on them. My sister's friend landed on one and it wiped her account out. The next thing I know she has her hands around my neck and is trying to strangle me.

I still make fun of her for how angry she got about such a stupid game.

Oh, and don't worry about me, I didn't retaliate, but the abusive relationships she has been in since more than make up for it.

Not to say that I wish them upon her, but come on...

Whats that Offspring song...

... Way Down the Line

Nothing changes cause it's all the same
The world you get's the one you give away
It all just happens again
Way down the line

...

Neutral

risk is a badass game, but it does take too long. even playing the secret mission version takes a long time.

So who would win a game of Monopoly? Donald Trump (Master of Real Estate.) or Bill Gates (Master of Monopolies)?
