My roommate owns GTA 4 and he couldn't even survive the on slot of 4 stars. How the hell can anyone survive 6 stars, that would be something to see.

I survived 6 stars, got away in a little over a minute.
Albeit I was in a helicopter, crossed to the part of the city I couldn't go to and quickly flew out of the circle.
Tried it again though and I couldn't get out of the circle in even in the chopper :S

If you want to do it the REALLY easy way, just get in a chopper, head to the statue of liberty and go inside it (where the "heart of the city" easter egg is). Then just wait until you get the achievement. I think its far too easy to get away from the cops in IV.

I got the achievement the BS way, before you unlock the second island, head to the second bridge. Before you get to the roadblock, get out of your car, jump through the middle, and get underneath the road, and walk past where you are allowed to go. The helicopter can't get to you, and the cop cars just drive around. Wait your five minutes and get your achievement.
You may be able to get the other one too, if you can stay under the road or between buildings and get away.

I've done it somewhat legitimately. I started a firefight in Algonquin, on the unused elevated train tracks. There's a part that goes under a building which gives good protection against the helicopters. After getting six stars, I jumped back into my car and made my way to the Algonquin bridge. Once I got there, I jumped down to the pedestrian walk level and jumped over on to the subway tracks. I made my way into the Algonquin subway tunnels and kept following them until I was out of the wanted area.
After watching the video where the guy cheats, I realized it would've been easier to start at the auto dealer.

Those vids are crazy.
I'm pretty much terrible at this. Once I get to 4 or more stars, I'm finished.
The pigs caught me by surprise with the roadblocks and shit when I got to the bridge and I flew off my motorcycle, right past it. As I tried to run to the other side of the bridge, they gunned me down.
What I did was before I unlocked another island I went onto the train tracks and drove on them until i was in automatic 6 star territory, and I just stayed out of direct sight of the helicopoters.
