So apparently backstage at the Grammy Awards, both Miley Cyrus and Kanye West asked to meet with Radiohead and both were declined. Miley later mentioned this incident on a radio program and how it upset her and Radiohead were jerks. Radiohead's Thom Yorke issued a statement saying that Miley needed to grow up and lose her sense of entitlement.
Now, if I had to pick which recording artist is more talented and which one I'd rather listen to, Radiohead wins hands down. But in this feud, I've gotta back Miley. Thom, would it have really killed you to meet Miley Cyrus? She likes your music and you were both at the same event, it's not like she was asking all that much. A band is nothing without its fans, so cut the Kurt Cobainesque "I'm better than you and you're unworthy of my music" bullshit. In thise case, you're the one with maturity issues.

And it's not like Miley was some annoying fan that snuck backstage to meet famous people. She is bigger now than Radiohead has ever been, and surely knows what it's like to have bothersome fans.

Yeah, I'm with you guys on this one. She's a little girl for Christ's sake. Take five seconds out of your big, important day, suck it up, smile and sign an autograph. The GOOD publicity she'd give you more than outweighs whatever time and/or dignity you "sacrificed."

It disappoints me to see that one of my favorite bands is so...well, pompous. I mean, they were asking to meet Radiohead to show appreciation and respect, and this is what they get for being fans?

I agree they should have at least talked to Miley, but screw Kanye. He is like the TO of the music world.

Is it just me, or do UK bands and singers always get really pompous when they get famous?
Beatles (We bigger than Jesus)
Oasis (Don't get me started on the Gallagher brothers)
Radiohead (See OP)
U2 (Better Than You, Holy Douches)
Sinead O'Conner (See U2)

Oh well, Kanye didn't bitch about it afterward so he just got like, twenty cool points with me. And personally, I more side with Radiohead. I mean, she's a big girl and shouldn't feel entitled to get to meet Radiohead. They may or may not have had a good reason to not want to meet her, and if they had a bad one, I would be on her side, but then she went and whined about it on the radio. I can see being upset by not getting to meet a band you like (I wouldn't know, I met Slash :p) but to go complain on the radio just seems really childish and immature.

Yeah. I'm not the biggest Beatles fan, but John Lennon was a fantastic human being, and he was anything but arrogant. Hell, he even chatted with Mark David Chapman right before being shot by him. He never meant for the "bigger than Jesus" comment to be taken the way it was, and he apologized profusely for it.
Roger Waters though, as much as I love him, was a pretty big douche back in the day.

I hate to be the lone voice of opposition on this but you don't know why they said no right? Your assuming they had the time to meet with her in the first place and also that they wanted to do it. Just because your popular doesn't mean you need to appease every fan you have out there. When you start living for the crowds and for the fans thats when the shit goes right off the tracks because you aren't living for yourself anymore. It's not going to kill Miley Cyrus to not meet Radiohead.

In a way, each of us has an El Guapo to face. For some, shyness might be their El Guapo. For others, a lack of education might be their El Guapo. For us, El Guapo is a big, dangerous man who wants to kill us. But as sure as my name is Lucky Day, the people of Santa Poco can conquer their own personal El Guapo, who also happens to be *the actual* El Guapo! |

I heard about this the other day but didn't know that Kanye was a part of this.
Personally I don't know why they would deny the other acts unless they had a prior conflict.

When was Miley Born? if it was after 1992, she's lucky to be alive. Bill Hicks show was just about to get underway and the first person to be hunted and killed was going to be Billy Ray Cyrus. She can thank cancer for the life she has and can stop bitching that she didn't meet a band and people with actual talent.
Also, fuck Kanye West, he seems to be improving but I'm sick of his bitching.

Miley Ray Cyrus[1] (born Destiny Hope Cyrus on November 23, 1992)
according to Wikipedia.
Though yes DD, it is cool to hate Miley Cyrus and Kanye West. Partially because they're both so popular by exploiting two of the most idiotic demographics- "Tweenage" girls, and those middle-class white kids who think they're "Gangsta". I live with a younger sister who fits into demographic 1, and an older brother who fits into demographic 2. It's not too bad, but you need to buy decent headphones in order to block out the crap and prevent it from damaging your precious ears.

The underlying question is WHY would Miley and Kanye want to meet Radiohead? I doubt it was merely to say, "Gee, I love your music." Simply because both of those performers appear to be too self-involved to love anything done by anyone other than themselves. It seems to me that they would want to expolit the critical acclaim of Radiohead. Miley needs an edge and Kanye needs some beats.
Radiohead wins awards (though, I don't think they care about them) and Kanye and Miley would sell their souls to win some shitty Grammy.
Personally, I wouldn't mind giving that chipmunk some nuts, but Kanye can go kill himself.

Although there is probably missing information, Miley does seem to be on the logical side of this... but my dickish, pompous musical side has to dominate and side with Radiohead, especially after bitching about it. They denied her and she resorted to name calling. Name calling is fail in my book.

Sorry, but this sentence makes it sound as if though Chapman came up to Lennon and said, "Hello, I'd like to shoot you now." and Lennon was all like, "Oh. Well then, lovely weather we're having" and the conversation continued until they ran out of things to talk about, and then Chapman pulled out the gun and went "Right, of you go then."
Point being, its not like Lennon knew he was gonna get shot.

So, Miley, you think you can take Radiohead down with your name calling? Ha! No Surprises there... You And Whose Army? Just do us all a favor and Go To Sleep...beware, because they Suck Young Blood. But There There...just be Optimistic; eventually you'll see Everything In It's Right Place. Why not cheer yourself and listen to The National Anthem or a Motion Picture Soundtrack? Just don't post any more half-Nude pics on the internet...or we'll all be Let Down.

Being upset about it is one thing, but she really didn't need to bitch about it on the radio.
