"Mummy 3" Prepares to Emerge From Its Tomb; Details Unravel

Posted by Binh Ngo on Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, 03:27 PM

Jeff Giles writes: "Once, twice, three times a "Mummy": ComingSoon.net reports that screenwriter Al Gough, who is co-writing the third installment in the "Mummy" series with Miles Millar, recently divulged a few storyline details to Sci Fi Wire. Turns out that Alex, the young son of the explorers played by Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz in the first two films, is all grown up and ready to battle the undead himself:

"We figured out a really good family story with Rick and Evie, and [their son] Alex is now grown up. So it's really interesting."

Looks like Junior is ready to have his own adventures.

If you're craving more Brendan Fraser at your local theater -- or are eager for Rachel Weisz to take a career detour into Unnecessary Sequelville -- you'll be excited to learn that, according to Gough, both actors are in talks to reprise their roles for the movie, slated for a summer 2008 release."

In unrelated news, Ash and Darkman are teaming up. Anyone know if Darkman is taking up his "Final Shemp" look?

No fucking way. If I ever think about seeing something else they'll ever write, I'll turn on Smallville to clear my head.

If they get Rachel Weisz and Brendan Fraser, I'd probably see it. If they don't get both of them though, fuck it.

I think that I vomited repeatedly and violently any time anyone said or did anything in mummy 2.
Darkman is AWESOME.

This is another sequel that makes you ask the big questions: why Mummy 3 when the first two were sub-par dreck to begin with? Why does Brendan Frasier keep getting work that doesn't involve him being an unthawed caveman?

Despite a number of lousy roles, Fraser's actually a talented actor. I recommend checking out Gods and Monsters.

Hasn't anyone seen the comic Darkman vs. The Army of Darkness? I see it everytime I go to the comic book store.

I never really cared for the Mummy movies, not even The Scorpion King. I saw that and the original movie at the drive-in, but I don't really remember them because I was disinterested. My favorite Fraser movie is definitely The Scout.

I love both of those movies as well.

And I probably listen to the Lone Rangers' version of Degenerated at least once a week.

I liked Encino Man. Must've saw the movie as much as The 5th Element: 54 times.

LOL Rycona.

Though, Knyte, it is said Fraser was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, which according to our screwed up country means he's American.
