From the 8-bit: A difficult run and gun with first-person levels.
From the 16-bit: The second Blue Bomber's first adventure that put new spins on the franchise for a new generation.
Confession. Never played Contra, though not for lack of trying. I'm currently waiting for it to hit the VC. Even if that weren't the case, I think we all know what I'd still vote for in a heartbeat were these not my polls.

Contra is a motherfuckin classic, period. I personally don't care for any Megaman game outside of 2 and 3. After that, they spit out "new" versions too quickly, the gameplay got too repetitive, they reached further and further with lame bosses, and ultimately ran the same formula too far into the ground. Sure, the X series changed things up a bit, but it was too little, too late imo.

Mega Man X by miles and miles. It could be up against Super Mario 3 or Zelda 1 and I would still vote for it.

For sure, Contra is classic but Megaman X is like the turning point of Megaman games.

I'm so bananas I'm showing up to your open casket,
to fill it up with explosive gases,
and close it back,
with a lit match in it,
while I sit back, and just hope it catches.
Blow you to fragments,
laugh,
roll you, and smoke the ashes.

This is a tough one. Contra is awesome, but I likes me some Mega Man X.

I voted Contra. I never played the original on the NES due to my government consisting entirely of giant walking dicks with no balls and even less brains, at least when it comes to video games; but even they couldn't stop it from being one of the most fun games I ever played. And it remains my favorite co-op game to date.
I remember when I was a kid, me and my sister used to play Probotector co-op for hours. It was basically the only time the two of us could be in the same room without trying to choke each other to death or test the durability of random objects on the other one's head. I can't think of a better compliment for the game than to say that it kept the two of us from fighting. Video game violence my ass.

You know that you could have just said, "look at my avatar". We would have understood.

I'm extremely surprised that MMX won here.

I just can't believe it. Sometime in the last 90 minutes, Contra gained enough votes to edge out Mega Man X, making this my new most popular poll. I just didn't see that coming at all.

That's hilarious. The score was like 10-5 in favor of megaman when I looked this morning. Sounds like something shady went down, though I can't say I'm disappointed in the result.

I agree, even though i missed the poll. Mega Man X, if I'm not mistaken was the first megaman game on the SNES. In my opinion it was like every other mega man game, but it was more polished in that it showed off the capabilities of the system. The thing that pissed me off the most about mega man X is that I, as well as many others i'm sure and i'm sure it's been discussed is that X does not equal 10. X is the robot's name. I used to think the x buster and the weapon charging was cool until I realized you could charge the m buster on mm4. Anyways, i would have voted for Contra for the sole fact that it is a classic of the time.
