I've been following the news on this movie over the last couple of months because I kinda liked the idea of it. Seems like the jury in Venice liked it too, because Darren Aronofsky's The Wrestler won the Venice film festival yesterday. People are already calling it a "Rocky" for wrestling. Here's the Wikipedia summary of the movie's plot:

Randy "Ram" Robinson (Rourke) is a retired professional wrestler from the 1980s who is forced to retire after a heart attack threatens to kill him the next time he wrestles. Robinson begins a job at a deli, moves in with an aging stripper, and attempts to form a relationship with her son. However, Robinson is drawn to the prospect of a rematch with his old wrestling nemesis the Ayatollah , even though the fight may cost him his life.

There's no trailer for the movie yet, since no theatrical release date has been decided on, so here's some preview footage and still shots:

After seeing the stills, I am glad they chose Rourke for the role. He looks great in it. And, a way better choice then their first choice for the lead role, Nic Cage.

Rourke does indeed look great. One thing I forgot to mention: The guitar work for the movie's score was done by Slash.

Since it's an Aronofsky film, the guy is clearly going to die. Or get his arm amputated. Or end up addicted to diet pills. Or all three.

I gotta see this movie. And not just because the actress that plays his daughter is how, or marisa tomei, though those 2 things don't hurt.

Evan Rachel Wood is fuckin' sexy, but she tends to play a slut in movies and dating Marylin Manson was just fucking weird. That being sad, I'm going to see this, looks quite good.

I have seen the movie and it is very good. Although it is not my favorite by Aronofsky.
