From the 8-bit: A beat 'em up with RPG elements and Chibi sprites.

From the 16-bit: An action RPG that pits the hero and his alter egos against an evil from deep space.

Talk about timing. Less than half an hour after this poll ends, option 1 hits the VC.

these are both great games, but I had to go with River City Ransom. I'm still a big fan of those sprites and music, and it's arguably the best beat em up ever, whereas Gaia doesn't really come to mind when I'm thinking about the best RPGs...

I wish the VC release of RCR had the revamped graphics and features of the GBA version, but with 2 player mode intact. As much as I like the game, I have no incentive to pay for the NES port when I already have it on my XBOX, PC and phone...

And it's a tie. Like I said before, less than half an hour to go before option 1 hits the VC.
