I remember seeing Spaceballs when I was I like 7 or 8 and I loved it. I had already seen the Star Wars movies, and Spaceballs was a damn entertaining parody. Hell, every little boy in my elementary school had seen it. It was freaking hilarious And it was really, really quotable.

As I got older, I began to encounter people who had been watching Mel Brooks movies since before I was born and they claimed that Blazing Saddles was way better and that it was the "last greast Mel Brooks movie". This second claim sometimes used History of the World, Part I instead of Blazing Saddles, but these tired old fools almost universally claimed that Blazing Saddles was way better than Spaceballs. When I finally saw Blazing Saddles, I was disappointed. It was OK, I guess, but some of the jokes were stupid. Really stupid. Like say, farting cowboys. Aside from Dracula: Dead And Loving It which I haven't actually seen, I think Blazing Saddles is my least favorite Mel Brooks movie.

So my question to the rest of you is which do YOU prefer?

I'm Spaceballs all the way...

But I LOVE DRACULA DEAD AND LOVING IT!!! Granted, I haven't seen it since it first came out on video, but I remember finding it very funny. Not as good as Spaceballs, but lightyears* better than Blazing Saddles.

BTW, would you consider the new Producers a Mel Brooks film, even though he didn't direct it? All the Mel Brooks elements are there, even a post credital cameo.

Spaceballs... no doubt.

I only remember one funny part in Blazing Saddles, and that's when the horse got punched in the mouth.

Spaceballs, on the other hand, haas at least 7 or 8 parts/lines that make me laugh out loud, EVERY time I see them. A couple of the ones that come to mind:

"How man assholes we got on this ship?"

"Evil will always triumph over good because good is dumb."

"Funny, she doesn't LOOK Druish."

The delivery of those lines is funny as hell. Blazing Saddles just seemed corny.

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us.

I'm going to withhold my vote because I like both a lot. I guess I'm just old-fashioned on some things. =-=chuckles=-=

While Blazing Saddles had it's moments, hands down the better of the two is Spaceballs. It's far more quotable, has a better cast, and your mom told me she'd give it up to me if I said so.

I think my favorite scene in Blazing Saddles was the giant fight that spills off the set and onto the food court and other sets.

Ditto and actually, that's my father's least favorite scene (he also like Blazing Saddles better)
