CHINA is mightily peeved at the US after some imbecile at the Pentagon sent a shipment of electrical fuses for Minuteman strategic nuclear missiles to Taiwan instead of the helicopter batteries that had been ordered.

The US is only supposed to supply Taiwan with weapons that can be used for defensive purposes. It is a truth universally acknowledged that intercontinental ballistic missiles do not readily fall into this category.

The fuses - 85 centimetres high and 50 centimetres in diameter - were shipped in late 2006 and despite quarterly inventory checks, the military muppets didn't notice the things were missing. Only when the Taiwanese kicked up a fuss about the non-arrival of the helicopter batteries was the mistake noticed. Once the error finally came to light, the military hastily recovered the four fuses after almost 18 months.

According to US Air Force Secretary Michael Wynne, the fuses were sent from an Air Force Base in Wyoming to a Defence Logistics Agency warehouse in Utah. There, they ended up in an unclassified area, rather than the secure section in which they should have been stored and somehow ended up travelling to Taiwan.

A spokesman said the Cheyenne base has 'stringent accountability procedures in place' for shipments to the Utah base and claimed that no one at the Wyoming base was responsible for the mix-up.

So it must be down to pixies.

A White House spokesperson announced that a full investigation is under way and, when asked if the President still had confidence in the Air Force's competence, replied: "Yes, yes he does."

Yeah, pretty stupid, but today I'm more pissed off about Pastor Wright's anti-Italian article from 12/07 that surfaced today.

Because he has a close relationship with Obama.

I don't want to hijack the thread, but I can't understand why anyone would think this isn't a big deal. When he has said such racist, anti-American statements on a repeated basis, it makes one wonder why Obama would not have left the church, unless he at least partially agrees with the statements.

It would be different if it was just some random guy he met once or had his picture with once, but this is someone deeply tied to him - he named one of his books after one of Wright's sermons and gave him a position in his campaign. This is not the "bullshit" that the funny Onion video was referring to.

Actually, I'm pissed off at most conservative pundits right now because of their attacks on McCain.

But if you want to villify me for having an opinion that coincides with most of the GOP, go ahead. I suppose I shouldn't be offended when a racist preacher disparages my heritage.

I'm sorry I derailed your thread Knyte.

This is the same as when some guy goes on a murdering spree, and then the news interviews the neighbors. The neighbors all can't believe he would do it because he was always such a great guy. Then they act like the guy is a leper afterwards, deservedly so.

Obama's pastor was most likely not a raving racist looney when Obama dealt with him and when the truth came out Obama condoemed his statements and shuffled away from him. He explained why he trusted the pastor in the first place (same as the neighbors all saying "but he's such a great guy!") and then let him go.

There are plenty of people who are close to politicians and work on campaigns who end up getting dropped because they're scumbags, and it's on both sides of the political spectrum.

Exactly. That's about the perfect way to put it.

Cattivo, I'm not saying that the comments shouldn't have offended you. Hell, they offended me. But unless you think that Obama hates America, white people, and freedome, there's no reason to hold one of his affiliate's words against him.

Watch his response speech. Even from a balanced perspective, you have to admit that he does a pretty good job defending himself.

Either way, if you're a Republican, that's more forgivable. What I hate is the Hillary supporters and Libertarians who all of a sudden pretend that they give a shit about a candidate's religion so they can contrive a reason to rag on Obama.

Blah Blah Blah. I hear disparaging stuff about hispanics all the time, I'm told to suck it up and not be so sensitive. I'm sure that Mr.Bomberman has had similar experiences.

And Republicans have courted the favor of Evangelists who at various times and to various degrees have spouted particularly vile things concerning jews, catholics, muslims, and homosexuals.

McCain himself, once a nobel maverick, has been attempting to gain favor with likes of John Hagee and the Council for National Policy. He has completely gone back on his previous statements about these groups and has stated that they basically do not agree on certain things. My guess is he'll drop them if he's elected, unlike the bush and clinton administrations, who invited the likes of Falwell to the white house.

Well, yeah, but there's a difference between being told not to bitch about it and being pissed off. And besides, Italians got as much shit as Hispanics are getting now. We were the original wetbacks.

On the flipside, I don't believe that someone should be judged by a relationship that they had years ago. We all have that one friend that we used to hang out with, but years later we hear of how they turned to drugs or killed somebody or something like that.
