niversal Pictures and Dark Horse Entertainment have signed a worldwide production and distribution agreement, making Universal the studio home of Dark Horse, one of the biggest independent comic book companies outside of Marvel and DC.
The deal gives Universal access to all Dark Horse characters and properties, as well any material that Dark Horse might acquire on its own and want to develop as a motion picture.
Dark Horse, on its end, can finance projects and finds a distribution entity in Universal.
Many Dark Horse comics have already been adapted for the screen, most notably "The Mask" by New Line and "Barb Wire" from Polygram. Universal adapted "Timecop" in 1994 and "Mystery Men" in 1999. Most were made prior to comics' 21st century grip on Hollywood.
Universal is behind the latest Dark Horse comic movie, "Hellboy II: The Golden Army."

So they didn't really buy Dark Horse. Which makes it even better.
