Why Apple's Purposely Suck For Gaming

GAME MAKERS have hit out at the Apple for being a bit silly about the way it controls graphics hardware.

Many of them see that Apple could easily be kicking some pastel coloured bottom in the games area but its insistence on tight hardware controls are killing it off.

Oliver Buchmann of Application Systems Heidelberg, a company that does offer games for Macs, told Earth Times that Apple has refused to allow graphics cards for games to be installed in its machines.

The current rate of game development requires a serious game user to upgrade graphics cards once a year and run two graphics cards in the same machine.

However Apple ownership forbids this, mostly because their design forbids two graphics cards and while specialists will install good games cards under the bonnet this means chucking your Apple warranty out the window.

So those games developers who are brave enough to take a punt at the Apple games market have to do without things like DirectX which is a mainstay of the industry.

Dual booting is an option for Mac users, but that is still a nuisance to reboot the computer just to play a game.

The thing is that Apple's target market are the same age group that play games. It is killing this market just because it does not want people installing graphics cards that are not blessed by the sainted Steve Jobs

I used to support apple, but now they kinda suck. I don't really play computer games, but apple is ridiculous. My main gripes are the price and the chips. The powerpc chips were boss. The only flaw is that they always added some subprocessor thing like the g4's "velocity engine." Now as time goes by, there are less and less programs that will run on g4 chips let alone the whole powerpc platform. Intel chips are great. Now you can run both OSX and Windoze. But you still cant run OSX on a non apple machine. Wait, unless you have that super secret version of OSX that runs on PC architecture. I think it's time to give up the OS so anyone can use it, regardless of architecture. Stop being Nazis like that, Apple. You make enough money on iPods and shit.
As for the price, the newest apple i own is a powermac g4. Apple computers are fucking expensive. If i could afford a brand new apple i'd buy one. But for now i settle with used. When apple came back with the imac around 1999, they were the shit. The quality of the product was awesome. I recently was in an apple store and was not impressed particularly with the quality of the products. The new keyboards suck balls. It doesn't feel natural and feels cheap. The styling is lame and boring, unlike the imacs of yesteryear. The iPhone was all hype. iPods are overrated. Get rid of the fucking "i" shit. Here's a thought for apple: I challenge you to make a computer with a 150 gig,HD, 1 GB ram, at least a 1 GHz processor, support for 3 additional hard drives, at least four free whatever the equivalent of pci and agp slots are now, mouse, keyboard, and monitor for $600. And then I'll laugh "Ha, ha, ha!" because i know it cant be done.
There you have it. Lower quality, ever changing chips, boring styling, and repeated use of the "i" is getting stale. I hate to say it, but I think that this Apple has reached its expiration date. But that's just what I think.

250GB Hard Drive
Dual Layer DVD Burner
Integrated GeForce 6100 Video and 5.1 Surround Sound.

Total Price to build: $275

I still feel like PC are for kids and Apples are for adults*. But whatever. I only ever played two games on my current Mac: Max Payne and Jedi Academy. Actually, I've only played like four games on this PC! Deus Ex IW, Nocturne, Scratches, and Freelancer. Rolling Eyes

Meanwhile the ratio of films/video edited on either system is about 30:1 (Apple:PC). Scripts written is more like 10:1.

*Not really, that's just what I got from reading that article. And again I'm not a PC gamer by any stretch of the imagination. If I need a beater computer I'll go PC, but if I know I'll need a computer for production it's all Mac.

The only reason I'd get a Mac is for Final Cut. Premiere is OK, it's just glitchy as fuck.

FYI the industry standard is still AVID, but don't worry it works just as well on a Mac as Final Cut. And really you don't have to worry about AVID unless you're serious about film editing. Personally, I find Final Cut easier to use, but all the post houses I've looked at use AVID.

Well, if the industry-standard program runs on a PC, I'd have no need for a Mac. I can build a great editing PC, my issue is with the Premiere software which seems to work correctly about 80% of the time.

Premiere is flawed. It's consumerware, which I guess is okay for the majority of people, but I'm so used to the powerhouse editing softwares that I can't take it seriously.

I think it's flawed due to lazy programmers, as stuff like Final Cut and Sony Vegas works without a hitch.

Adobe Premier is a fucking piece of shit, the end.

Try making sense of that GUI, seriously.

I tried using it for about an hour. I was totally confused, it was an unintuitive piece of shit, then I uninstalled it.

I agree that Premiere is hardly user friendly, but it kicks the crap out of WMM. My videos for the character battles were done in Premiere Pro.

Agreed.

Edit: Everything I have to say about Macs, J.J. Abrams has already said.
