I got an inside scoop on the new He-Man movie. It looks like WB is trying to make it into their own LOTR franchise. Although, right now there's no script due to the strike.
Even though I love the film we already got, hearing that they're going to make it as a full blown fantasy epic really excites me.

Speaking of remakes...lol. Like I said about Hollywood, remakes or adaptations. But this could be pretty cool, and it'll probably be greeted with the same hype as Transformers.

Everyone can thank Transformers for the 80s revival. That film made some serious bank. It is brilliant for WB to not only recognize they own a major 80s property, but also that it's fantasy to cash in on the LOTR success.
It's all about predicting or following trends. Nonetheless, "Masters of the Universe" done on a large scale, serious, and epic presentation is something I would really want to see. Even if they butcher the story from the cartoon/toys/movie etc. I wouldn't care.
The guy who's hired to write it is actually a fairly young unknown writer too, but his spec scripts apparently have a lot of 'heat'. He's written a few other franchise films that are still in development. I know one of them was Green Arrow. Guess you can get a majority property without having had a script turn into a large grossing movie.
An old article. But Silver is pretty gung-ho on it after Speed Racer is released (BTW, buzz was on Speed Racer that it's pretty outstanding - although the first half still needs a lot of work).

Fucking Christ. Won't they ever make a movie that actually centers on Ken and Ryu? You know, the main fucking characters? Chun Li is alright to play as, but I don't give a shit about her backstory.

I could give less a care about Ryu, but I wouldn't mind one focusing on Ken since he actually has some substance (compared to Ryu) seeing as he's got Eliza (did they ever marry?) and training Sean.

I have to agree. No one, besides Marvel, cares about these guys. Isn't Ant Man Giant Man anyhow?

I wonder what market this new Street Fighter film is supposed to cash in on.
Green Arrow = Prison Break
He-Man = LOTR
Voltron = Transformers
Street Fighter = ???
Hannibal Rising?

Nono its not that i dislike these comics but it seems like hollywood is throwing hundreds of millions at every thing hat was in print. And it looks like Marvel and DC are not too opposed to whore themselves to do it.

Of course you have th big ones Spiderman, Wolverine, Batman etc etc but look at some of the upcoming. Ironfist? Zatanna? I mean your general movie goer has no fucking clue who these things are. And i doubt that comic book readers are going to be able to fund each movie so that they all make profits. I'm just pissed cause it seems that any comic is gonna be a big movie because hollywood is too lazy to try something new.

They should go really old school and remake Doc Savage. That would be hot.

I have found out much about this industry these past couple of weeks that it may seem this way, but it really isn't. There's a truth about not doing something new, but that's there for a reason - But not entirely correct either. Like how many sequels were nominated for best picture? Yet, how many of the major studios actually produced the films that were? They distributed them and raked in what little benefits they had, and most of that money is going into the big tent-pole movies because they make far more money than the art house films. How often is "The Constant Gardner" on TV vs. "The Rock"?
It may be an evil, soulless industry, but it's starting to make more and more sense every day.

That's why these films are going to be more "universal" than simply appealing to the fans. Expect more adaptations like "Transformers" - obviously not "Transformers" but in terms of its faithfulness. Properties are treated as their own franchises. Transformers and Spider-Man 3 were the big money makers this year, because they hooked an audience that went beyond the long term fans. While it makes the fans somewhat upset, they are the minority. And, really, the executives greenlighting these films don't know anything about these properties. The producers might be, but they might only like the concept. The original screenwriter might be a fan, but they will be replaced or rewritten by someone who isn't. It's also a crap shoot about who will respond to what also.
"Blade" for example made tons of money despite being based on an obscure comic book. Blade is on the same level as "A History of Violence" and "Spider-Man" to these guys, so that also puts "Zatanna" there too. It's crazy, but sane at the same time.

Hancock is starting to look better the more i think about it. Its so far the most original Superhero movie i have encountered in quite some time.
But Transformers pretty much had a built in market place. All you had to tell me was that there was a movie based on it and id be there. Same with TMNT and G.I.JOE. But something like Gargoyle or Ironfist doesn't have that sorta base that Spidey or Xmen have due to the fact they were so mediatized even without the comics in the form of games and cartoon series. Not many other comics have that.
BUT I totally forgot how much blade was unknown back then .Same thing with Spawn. Your 100% right. If they can get a good cast and script movie fans will come not to mention good directing. If your script cast and director all suck no comic book movie or even movie will do good.
But my main worry is that they keep digging farther and farther into the never ending comic abyss until comic book movies go into another recession like it did after some of those bad 90s films. I still would love to see a Sentry movie before this happens.

Now you've got me thinking about them pulling a reboot of Spider-man by making a 2099 film, which I would probably pay to see if it was half good (especially if they could find a half-decent Irish-Mexican actor to play Miguel).
