From The Asylum, makers of Transmorphers and AVH: Alien vs. Hunter, comes:

These guys fascinate me. I actually yakked on the phone with the company's founder, David Latt, for a little while just to pick his brain. Really nice guy; shame about the movies though. Well, not really, I'm sure he's doing just fine for himself. Smile

Anyhow, this movie is worse than you expect. Unless you've seen other Asylum flicks, in which case... it's still a little worse than you expect. They crank out a new knock-off every month, though, so that might give you some idea. It's just that the home-movie style they use to emulate Cloverfield sort of gives them an "excuse" to make it suck more.

Mostly I'm in love with whoever does their cover art. He does a really good job making artwork so snazzy that you think "well the movie couldn't be THAT bad..."

Oh yes it can.

That's what I assumed. Seriously, I just download crappy movie covers cause they look way better than the actual films. Plus, it makes me want to write a good version of them. Wink

I actually didn't hear about (this) "Monster", but I'm glad that company is so good at releasing flicks at the original "Little Shop of Horrors" speed.

Here's the thing, though: while The Asylum has become very much like Roger Corman (in his heyday) in terms of quantity/output, the quality is just nowhere near the same.

Back in Corman's day, even if you were a hack you had to have serious skill. You were spending a boatload of money on the film stock alone, so you couldn't screw around. Not so in the days of dirt-cheap video. Compare any Corman film to any Asylum film and you'll see a world of difference. It's kind of sad.
