People are bashing this game just 'cause it isn't a fighting game, But judging by this multiplayer video, I'm sold- It looks fuckin' crazy!

Also, it's pretty cool how they recreated the combos from the 2D games in 3D.

Now, just to wait for some company to release this here...

I have to agree though. It would be like making a new Darkstalkers into a cell shaded action adventure.

That looks kind of awful.

The entire appeal of Guilty Gear is that, in a world where 3D fighting games dominate the market, it offered a beautiful, complex 2D sprite-based experience and an intense heavy metal soundtrack.

Overture does not look pretty and the soundtrack is bland and sterile. And what was with that monotone computer voice.

"There is a battle to be won. Let's rock."

That bitch didn't sound even SLIGHTLY interested in rocking.

It sure as hell isn't Guilty Gear. I don't mind sequels that do something innovative with a franchise, but I hate it when developers take a successful series and tack the name on a game that has almost nothing to do with the originals. And that was the most half-assed "Let's Rock" I've ever heard.

I suppose that's why "Guilty Gear Accent Core Plus" is coming out sometime in mid/late 2008... Kliff and Justice return, and a story mode returns like the one from #Reload. But still, what a pain... how many versions of XX will there be? it's practically rivaling Street Fighter II.

One of the supposed big attractions for Overture is its storyline: the identity of That Man becomes somewhat more clear, a bunch of new characters are introduced including some Ky lookalike, and this girl who is made from Justice's DNA among an assortment of other poorly designed characters. The storyline is pretty puzzling and raises even more questions than it answers (Sol and Justice are the parents of Dizzy? Ky marries Dizzy?). Also, NONE of the characters from the GG series appear other than Sol, Ky, That Man and Justice...Dizzy is kind of insinuated and Axl appears in the form of Raven. A lot of fans in general were unhappy with the way the story and design turned out (Sol's new design makes him look like something out of Kingdom Hearts and Ky looks like an emo Disney princess). Maybe the only cool thing about the game is that you get to fight That Man in Sol's gear form... alas his gear form is taken quite literally from his Dragon Install (he grows wings, a tail and becomes all scaly). So what was Arc System's answer to this hodgepodge of a Guilty Gear game? "It's an alternate time line to the main series"

Oh well, I'm still curious to see how the game plays hands on.

On a side note, anybody know where I can get my hands on a copy (legal or otherwise) of that new Fist of the North Star game from Arc System Works?

Yeah, Guilty Gear XXX is probably the most anticipated sequel since Street Fighter III.

Sadly, Accent Core Plus may never see release in America. It currently only announced as a PS2 upgrade disc in Japan that will retail for roughly $20 American. Here's hoping it gets translated and ported to the Wii by Aksys.
