Given the choice, would you prefer to play paintball or laser tag?

I think they both have their merits, laser tag is very versatile and you can have the guns do more than just shoot. You can have area of effect blasts and other computerized effects. Paintball may be more limited, but it carries that very real adrenaline rush with the fear of getting shot in a sensitive area, like the knuckles or the neck. (Neither or which is very fun, trust me).

To invest in the long term, I assume laser tag would have a much higher overhead cost, but maintenance costs would be relatively low compared to having to replace paintballs and CO2 cartridges.

I only done laser tag once, and paintballed several times. I prefer paintball, but don't really think I have enough experience to give laser tag a fair shake.

Airsoft is best.

I agree on airsoft, actually.

Personally, I adore laser tag though. Given the choice I'd have to go with that. Some of my fondest memories as a kid are from blasting the crap out of my friends at Q-Zar. Good times.

I've never played airsoft. What's it like?

Well, the kind of paintball I'm thinking of (in an arena with inflatable obstacles and cover and stuff) is pretty disorganized. In a very fun way, mind you, but there aren't a ton of tactics involved.

Airsoft is a much bigger game, and is a lot more focused on military tactics and (attempting) to simulate something of a combat environment. Players usually wear some type of military camouflage, and the airsoft weapons look a lot more real than paintball guns do. Its a hell of a lot of fun.

I'm going to go with laser tag because they took up a pretty big part of my childhood.

Every time I've played paintball it's been in a big section of woods with a bunch of buildings and walls made out of wood. Then we play different games like 'kill all enemies', 'capture the flag', and 'virus' where two people start with it and spread it to other people and everyone is is trying to kill the infected.

Ah, that's the cool kind of paintball. I still prefer airsoft if only because the weapons are more fun to use and easier to handle, but that kind of paintball game is pretty similar to the kind of airsoft I play.

Airsoft and Paintball Hurts when you have no padding or anything... I had been shot all over with airsoft and Paintball I've been nut-shot by asshats. I enjoyed lazertag when I was young and still do, but Airsoft is fun when you have one guy in the corner and you just keep blasting him...
I'd say airsoft and Lazertag... no clean up needed.

When I used to play paintball all the time, we had a rule. "If you don't wear protection (Thick clothes, Mask, Cup, etc.) you only have yourself to blame."

I like paintball, but I am a huge stickler for military realism, so I prefer Airsoft, as you get 1:1 replica weapons. I tried my best with paintball, but even after dumping an extra $200+ into my Tippman A5 (Which already cost $180) on M-4 stock, gas tank remote hose, new barrel, etc. it looked like a wannabe M-4 with a giant plastic ammo tub attached to it:

For less money, I could have just bought a Tokyo Marui A5 AEG Airsoft rifle:

Never played paintball or airsoft games (though I shot airsoft guns a couple times) so laser tag for me.

Lasertag requires you to wear a big heavy vest and if you get shot playing paintball then you get paint on your shit. I'm going airsoft due to the ease of play.

The vest isn't even heavy! Confused

People usually wear camo pants and old shirts so the paint doesn't matter if it gets on it.

I never really did the Nerf thing, but my buddies had some wicked Super Soaker fights back in the day. Problem was, I had a crappy little one-handed pistol model while my friend had the giant bazooka with the twin water tanks you carried on your back. Guess who won every time lol. It was still a great time though. Man I miss that.

I spent most of my formative years in South Carolina, and I remember having BB gun fights with other neighborhood kids. We would wear sunglasses and long sleeves go out into the woods behind our houses and shoot each other with honest-to-god BBs. We would run around until it got too dark, and then we would go back inside and spend the evening with a pair of tweezers plucking stray BBs out of our ankles. I can't believe I used to do such idiotic things.
