Apparently the guy who looks like the pope is Sinterklaas (Saint Nicholas) and his buddy is Zwarte Piet (Black Pete). Sinterklaas is the Dutch version of Santa Claus and Black Pete is his helper. Black Pete is not actually a slave.

Right, cause Santa has 6-8 black men helping him... There's a really funny bit someone gives about the Holland Christmas.
