I use GameSpot for news and Tournament TV (one of the greatest inventions ever, in my opinion). I don't use it for reviews because of shit like this.

I'm guessing that by "punishing difficulty" they mean "it wasn't fucking cake like the last one and we're a bunch of whiny pussies who are too busy playing Halo 3 anyway".
Whatever, I still plan to get it.

On that statement I would agree I played the game and didn't find it to be difficult. Today's mainstream gamers are just wussy little retards who need everything spelled out and be able to respawn or save every ten seconds

Thats why I like Game Faqs for reviews personally. I mean hey, I post reviews there (SHAMELESS PLUG!)

Reviews suck.
For example, IGN gave God Hand a 3. A three for goodness sakes. I can understand if you don't like it, but I think they gave "the bouncer" like a six or seven. Most of his complaints and advice work for like the first level only, so you can tell he didn't fucking bother to play it.
He basically did what he does with sex, is that he went at it for like five minutes, shoots his review load, is shortly baffled as to why people didn't like it, then returns to a state of general smugness.

Yeah, Jew. Go emulate some of the older ones or play Path of Radiance (again if you have) AND THEN come back to us.

Hey guys, I need to validate my nerd opinions by someone else's standards because I'm a complete fucking tool.
There, I just summed up all video game reviews, so for future reference you can discount them as the complete bullshit that they are.

All I played was one for the GBA. God damn the cutscenes were so insanely long and stupid. It's like the entire works of Shakespeare every cutscene, every 5 minutes.
Never again will I play a Fire Emblem game.

Crap! At first, I thought you were talking about Gamestop. I buy most of my new games there, and the employees there are really nice.
Anyway, I don't care much about too many game review sites.

true-ish. though if a load of the folks here bought game 'x' and a few posted that it was a bit shit, i'd probably spend my cents/pennies/time on another games. anyone who has to hear someone else's opinion to play a game is obviously a bit thick but they don't do any harm. don't like them? don't read 'em. play a game instead....!

I buy used games there. I tend to buy all of my used ones at my own job, unless we dn't have the game.

As far as PC game reviews go, I pretty much ignore the hype these days. After getting burned on the over-hyped half-life 2, I don't really have the same faith in reviews. Let's not forget the fact that PC Gamer has World of Warcraft as the number one game of all time...viral marketing, anyone?

What do you mean overhyped? Every major game is overhyped.

Not really, Half-Life 1 had pretty humble beginnings with no hype, and it fucking delivered. Half-Life 2 was like, hey, Half-Life 1 was the best thing ever, so if we make the sequel to that game, that automatically means a 9 hour boat ride with shitty AI that stands in place can pass as the even BESTEREST thing ever! Right guys?
Half-Life 2 is literally called the BEST GAME EVER. It's not even slightly shameful about it; It says so on the box. I have it on my computer desk, turned around, so I can always see that quote and be reminded of its greatness. It's Bestness, even.
I don't recall even seeing commercials for, or reading reviews for any game from the NES era. I just got them and they happened to be good.
Every major game from iD and Apogee software in the 90's had no hype behind it, and those rocked. Sim City 2000 had no hype. The list goes on and on. The amount of hype companies devote towards a game has pretty much skyrocketed to retarded and disgusting levels in recent years, and is inversely proportionate to the quality of the games.

There were a bunch of NES era commercials, but most of them weren't memorable and they didn't air very often. The only NES game I remember that got any sort of real marketing push was SMB3. In addition to the The Wizard, there was a TV commercial that was just a bunch of kids chanting Mario over and over again. It was kinda like the Mortal Monday ad, only first.
Also, I generally won't buy a Nintendo-produced game if it gets a bad review in Nintendo Power. I had been interested in Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis, but then it got a 7/10 in NP. When the Nintendo propaganda machine can't be bother to give one if its own games a good review, you know it's probably disappointing.

That game is OK. Nothing above a 7, though. And I just saw a commercial for Advance Wars: Days of Ruin.
