After hearing that fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer are so desperate to get their vampire-hunting fix that they’ve been flocking to see theatrical screenings of the Emmy-nominated musical episode "Once More, with Feeling," 20th Century Fox began formulating a plan to produce a Rocky Horror-style dress-up and sing-along tour of the episode to kick off this week.

But the studio decided to pull the plug at the last minute and cancelled the trek, including the sold-out three-night opening run scheduled to kick off tonight in St. Louis at the Tivoli theater.

"Basically, the idea of presenting television shows in a theatre is so new that there are a lot of details that still need to be resolved around payments of residuals, deals with the guilds and unions, etc.,” said event founder Clinton McClung. “Both Fox and Criterion [Pictures] need to fix some of these issues before they can continue to do any theatrical screenings."

And fans are pissed!

One online petition to save the Buffy musical posted by McClung on Wednesday currently has 1,534 signatures.

"We might be a victim of our own success,” McClung added. “We've toured around the country for a year and gotten a lot of press. I think the issue is something to do with the back-end— someone who is supposed to get paid when these things get screened wasn't, and they heard about my show, and got upset."

It's probably Fran Rubel Kuzui and her husband, Kaz Kuzui. Who were credited as executive producers of BTVS and Angel shows but were not involved in them. Their credit, rights and royalties over the franchise relate to their funding, producing and directing of the original movie version of Buffy.

So, they are probably trying to leech yet more money from the Buffyverse, even though they have had nothing to do with it since the beginning.

And yet I don't hate them for it. With recent royalty battles going on, I've become more open to them. Sure the Kuzuis making a crap ton of royalty money seems unfair, but that's how the legal system works and it's there for a reason.

Of course, I wish the show did tour, but given the CD has yet to leave my car stereo since July... I'll get by.

I could barely watch that episode to begin with. "Hush" was the best episode because:

1) There was little to no cheese diolage
2) Tara was introduced, my favorite minor character of the series
3) There was no SING!

When i was young, i was one of those kids that fast forward through most of the singing in a Disney movie. I'll watch a musical scene once but 9/10 i'll skip it the second time around. But even i will admit, "You never had a friend like me" from Aladdin is the best Disney song ever.

But yah, i can't believe they made a play based on that episode. I liked the series but that was one episode that people like a little too much. Also, has anyone read any of these:

Let us also not forget: "The Body" - Which had no music.

What an odd trilogy that made. Season 4 - The Silent episode, Season 5 - The Musicless episode, Season 6 - The Musical episode.

And then "Angel" got the muppet episode (which doesn't fit, I just like Muppets).
