An Australian performance artist has had an ear implanted on his arm. Stelios Arcadious had ear cells infused into his arm in 2006, and there is now a very pronounced ear on his left forearm. He is planning to have a microphone and a Bluetooth transmitter implanted there, so that others can hear what his arm hears.

It's purely cosmetic. Hence the mic and bluetooth. I think they use the term "hear" loosely here. It's more like, what sounds are around the ear, or what it would hear if it was functional.
