I thought starting a thread where we can give each other feedback on purchasing Albums would be cool. Members can ask each other whether an album is worth the time and money. You can also 'pitch' an album that other members might enjoy.

Here is what i have been thinking of getting:

How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb by U2
Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band by the Beatles
Breakfast in America by Supertramp
The Downward Spiral By NIN
Thriller by Michael Jackson
Libertad by Velvet Revolver

And my suggestion to own would be "Darkside of the moon" by Pink Floyd but i have a feeling many of you already have that one

Downward Spiral is a great pick if you're into industrial....and are a frustrated teenager. I loved to listen to NIN as a teen whenever I was angry.

Don't get the U2 album, it sucks. The rest of those are all solid choices. Libertad has some filler on it though.

I'd actually take Off the Wall over Thriller if I were in the market for an MJ album.

I'd probably get an MJ greatest hits compilation, actually.

Thriller has Thriller, Billie Jean, Beat It, Wanna Be Starting Something, and a bunch of songs I don't give a shit about it. If you get the greatest hits, you'd get those songs, plus Don't Stop Til You Get Enough, Bad, and Smooth Criminal.

Yeah... there's some #1s collection where the cover is white and it's him in a black outfit or something, that's got all the good stuff.

Michael Jackson really does have some kickass music. Too bad he's a creepy child-raping weirdo with a cadaverface.

I think i know someone who has that CD. They have been thinking about selling CDs they don't listen to anymore so maybe i can buy it from them cheaply.

I heard some stuff from the U2 album. To be honest, Vertigo is the one song i know the most but i've heard from other source that there are other cool songs on the album that are just as good. And I'm not surprised about Libertad having fillers. I have yet to find an album (that is not a best hits album) that has no fillers in it. Hell Thriller and Back in Black are guilty of this. I don't mind fillers, what i do mind is an album with only ONE good song on it (i'm looking at you Phil Collin's Face Value).

There is only one song off that album that I know and now i want it. I'm going to let everyone guess which song that is . . .

I would argue that Back In Black is a great listen all the way through. And Paranoid. And Appetite For Destruction. And American Idiot. And Operation: Mindcrime. And The Wall.

And Kill 'Em All, and Cowboys from Hell, and Bat Out of Hell, and Seasons in the Abyss, and Grace Under Pressure, and Out of the Cellar, and Couldn't Stand the Weather...I'm going off on a rant again. I wish I could say Rust in Peace, but that had Dawn Patrol on it.
Point is, there are a lot of good albums that are all killer, no filler. You just gotta know where to look.

Damn, forgot about that masterpiece. Okay, AFD is solid and don't get me wrong, Back in Black is awesome as a whole, I just like a selection of songs on BIB. Oh i forgot, Tommy by the Who, that's a sold album too. And oh what is wrong with me, Use Your Illusion II! I love that album from start to finish. Okay, i take it back . . .

And how good is American Idiot? i've hear good things about it.

I can't believe you don't own Sgt. Pepper's!! Get that! And Libertad is the best album this year, especially if you like solid rock that isn't like that shit on the radio. American Idiot is a great album, but it's their And Justice For All. Anything else they do from now on is gonna suck, now that they're eye-shadow wearing queerbait. It's a damn shame too

My dad was more of a Stones fan and in fact it was the Stone's music that got me hooked on rock. He didn't care for the Beatles and we only have the #1 hits collection CD. I mainly want to get Sgt. Pepper's because of it's historical Rock n' Roll significance.

Now, i know this Album is not out yet (and may never come out) but i would get it. I've heard some of the leaked song and Axl's new twist is interesting.

Yes i am talking about the decade long endeavor of Axl Rose:

Chinese Democracy!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_Democracy_(album)

Will it come out? And if it does, heck yay i'll get it. Anyone else?

I've heard the various leaks of "The Blues", "Madagascar", "There Was A Time", "Better", "Chinese Democracy", and "Catcher In The Rye", and they've all been pretty damn cool. If the album ever comes out, I'll sure as hell buy it.

GN'R is easily one of my top 5 favorite bands, possibly #2 behind Pink Floyd.

The current rumor (sigh) is that the album will be out February 12th, a week after Axl's birthday.

The funny thing is that even though Axl can't seem to finish his fucking album, he managed to sing on three songs on Sebastian Bach's upcoming album.

And do a voice on GTA. And make a total asshole of himself, but it's not like that's hard for him.

Oh, Axl, you used to be so cool.

The only album in your list that I own is Sgt. Peppers. And its good, but I would go for Revolver first (in some circles Beatles fans think that one is the best Beatles album).

As for all the other albums being discussed, I like Back In Black, but I find myself skipping "Shake A Leg" and one other track i can't remember.

As for albums you can play all the way through, these are a couple of my suggestions:

Pink Floyd: Wish You Were Here
Van Halen: Van Halen
Iron Maiden: Powerslave
Metallica: Ride The Lightning
Rush: Hemispheres

Incidentally: Revolver is another one of those albums you can play all the way through, whereas on Sgt. Peppers I'm kinda sick of "Good Morning, Good Morning" and "Lovely Rita."

Abbey Road is pretty good all the way through, although "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" is pretty cheestastic.

I personally am not a fan of Revolver, but it's alright. I agree with the albums you can listen all the way through, particularly Van Halen lol. And Wish You Were Here is funny, cuz I don't own the album nor have I listened to it, but I love every song on it.

And I think Highway To Hell beats out Back In Black

Maxwell's Silver Hammer is awesome, its a kickass story about some kid going on a killing spree with a silver hammer, then he goes to trial and while the judge is talking to some people defending Maxwell, the kid pops up and kills the judge, hilarious and awesome, plus its a sing-a-long kiddies. And rarely did anything the beatles did have filler, their best albums hard to say because their sound changed so much but if you were gonna buy a beatles album I'd say Let it Be, Magical Mystery Tour or Help if you like their early stuff, Abbey roads great but it'll sound a lot better if you get into the beatles first. Also, Libertad kicks ass and I'm probably seeing them in october.

And for Appetite, I never liked Anything Goes. Also UYI2 features the worst song ever, My World, every single time I put that album on when I'm doing something else I stop and look at how awful it is. Pretty Tied Up is annoying and Locomotive is good but it goes too long before anything happens.

Also, right now I am considering buying...
-The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars-David Bowie
-Texas Flood-Stevie Ray Vaughan
-Are You Experienced-Hendrix (I've heard most of it, its just that its $20 and when I haven't heard 4 or 5 songs on the album I'm not sure I'm forking out that much for it (I have bad luck with that type of stuff)
I'd appreciate some feedback on my choices too.

Anyone who wants to know how the new Smashing Pumpkins album is like - Well, it's as if Corgan took a bunch of songs he would have made another solo album out of, or another Zwan album out of, and added a bunch of guitar riffs in order to make it qualify as an alt-rock album instead of another light rock album. Basically, it's the bare minimum I would have accepted. I would sort of look forward to another entry, but I would hope it would be a little more inspired. Oh, and I would appreciate them hiring Melissa Auf Der Maur on bass so that it would qualify a little more as a Smashing Pumpkins album instead of a Billy Corgan album....Although, Corgan was the Pumpkins anyway. I'm sure D'Arcy isn't needed with all of her problems, and Iha isn't that essential, unless you want one of his high-pitched songs like "Believe" and "Go" on every album.

I'd have to say that all the songs on Led Zeppelin 2 and 4 are all good along with Physical Graffiti

Dark Side of the Moon is required listening for everyone in my opinion

Also one of my favorite albums to come out in recent years would have to be Wintersun, awesome throughout the entire album

I bought that album having heard practically the whole thing and I still loved it! Get it!
