Bruce Lee's classic 1973 film, "Enter the Dragon," will be remade by Warner Bros.

The remake, to be titled "Awaken the Dragon," will be written and directed by Kurt Sutter, producer of "The Shield" TV series. It will be released by Warner Independent Pictures.

In an e-mail Thursday to The Associated Press, Warner Bros. publicist Laura Kim said the movie will tell the story of an FBI agent who investigates a Shaolin monk and underground kung fu fight clubs.

China's Shaolin Temple is renowned for its martial-arts tradition.

Kim declined to reveal the casting choices, budget or shooting schedule.

Lee played a kung fu fighter who infiltrates an island occupied by a rogue martial arts artist in "Enter the Dragon."

He died in 1973, at 32, from swelling of the brain.

Lee was known for movies in which he portrayed characters that defend the Chinese and the working class from oppressors.

He was born in San Francisco but grew up in Hong Kong, where he made his name as an actor.

I've seen a bunch of The Shield, and they may want to think about finding The Sword.

It's not bad, but everything just seems a tad over the top and I don't like most of the deliveries on that show. When I watched it, it felt like it was there just to keep me occupied.

That being said, I fear the touching of such a classic by such a nobody to be rather tasteless. The only thing I've been able to find that Sutter has done is The Shield. He's done a lot of producing and writing and a bit of acting and directing, but only for that one show, at least in terms of anything that IMDB or Wiki care about.

So, who decided, "Well, he doesn't have much under his belt, but what the hell?. Let's make Bruce Lee turn in his grave!"?

Ridiculous. Mad

RIP Hacker.

The Shield is pretty entertaining, but yeah, it definitely feels like it tries too hard to be gritty sometimes.

But remaking Enter The Dragon is just dumb. It's nice that they're at least slightly changing the name, but still. The thing that set EoD apart from the hundreds of other Kung Fu movies coming out of Hong Kong was Bruce Lee's unmatched martial skills. In that regard, EoD was pretty a Bruce Lee vehicle, and you can't have the vehicle without the driver.

And supposedly the Farrelly brothers are STILL hoping to make a Three Stooges movie and have it out sometimes in 2009. Why? God only knows. The Three Stooges were characters, yes, but the names of the Stooges (usually) coincided with the stage names of the actors who played them. You CAN'T recast them, and it's dumb to try. It'd be like making a Tramp movie without Chaplin, or making Charlie McCarthy movie and giving him a new ventroquilist. It takes a certain level of arrogance to think that one can pull off a Three Stooges movie, and I can't understand where the Farrelly brothers would get such big egos; their last four movies (Osmosis Jones, Shallow Hal, Stuck On You, Fever Pitch) were absolute shit.

I should point out that the director of the original "Enter the Dragon" was basically a nobody as well. So I'm not sure that's a good reason to dislike it.

That being said, though, the whole idea of remaking it does not thrill me. Mad

Who ever wrote that article is an idiot.

Or maybe they had to fill in a certain amount of space.

And they just didn't have anything to write.

Either way it annoyed me.

EDIT: I'm sorry, "wroted"?! How the fuck do I come up with this stuff?

Despite my run in with John Saxon a few weekends ago, I'm not against the remake. The last time they remade it we got "Mortal Kombat". It's a pretty standard plot that's been ripped off before and will be done so again. It may not have Bruce Lee, Saxon, and the cameos of Sammo Hung and Jackie Chan but it's not like we're talking about remaking "Citizen Kane" here. Besides, any mainstream kung fu film gets my approval.

So we have spoken.

Actually, I think the climate is right for a Citizen Kane remake. But extreme! He'll be sky-diving out of a burning A-10 Warthog with dual semi-auto pistols in hand screaming "ROSEBUD!" as he shoots dozens of Communist cyborg-ninjas. Oh, and Rosebud would now be his saucy Latina side-kick and love interest. And Zanadu would be a flying ice fortress. I should so be a Hollywood writer...

No it isn't. "Enter the Dragon" is a classic, great film, but seriously it is sacred only to itself. There's not a whole lot of bastardizing we haven't seen before. Plus, it isn't even going to try to replace the original, so whatever. Let them do their thing, cause there's not enough secret island evil kung fu tournament movies these days anyway.

So, Hollywood is now up to the 70s in remakes. Do you realize it will just be a couple more years until we get remakes of 80s films?

What classics will they trash?

Will they re make the action films like Rambo, Preditor, or Big Trouble In The Little China?

Will they tap into John Hughes' Teen Dramedies?

When will the madness end?!?!

I don't think they'll touch Rambo, Predator, or Big Trouble In Little China.

Rambo couldn't really be remade, as it was very much a product of the 80s as it tapped into post-Vietnam disillusionment. OK, scratch that. It could be remade to tap into post-Iraq disillusionment. Of course, first we need a rooftop embassy evacuation.

A Predator remake could be cool, but Hollywood seems more interested in its shitty family friendly AVP franchise.

Hollywood needs to stay the fuck away from Carpenter films. The remakes of The Fog and Assault On Precinct 13 sucked major ass. Zombie's Halloween looks decent enough, but it's still rather unnecessary.

And Hollywood is already starting to rape the 80s.

Have we already forgotten Transformers? Shit, I had. Thanks a lot for reminding me.

MGM wants to make a DTV Bill & Ted movie with different actors: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1086064/
How about an Adventures in Babysitting sequel: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0829094/

In terms of 80s movies, I think Police Academy is a good candidate for being remade, especially as blaxplotation film.

Most John Hughes won't work, as it played on 80s era innocence, but I could see some new extreme version of the Breakfast Club.

If they can put a Ghostbuster in a wheelchair and call it "Xtreme", they can do anything.

People probably said the same thing about Rollerball. And, if they can remove all the social and political overtones in that movie turning it into a pointless action film, they would have no problems doing the same thing to Rambo.

Assault was still good mindless fun IMO.

And they're remaking FUCKING ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK! Or at least making a new Snake Plissken movie with Gerald Butler. Evil Now THAT gets my disapproval.
