Does anyone have any suggestions for GameCube games that kick and/or stomp ass? My girl just got me a GameCube for Christmas, which totally kicks ass because I play hers over her place once in a while and have a lot of fun playing. However, my experience with GameCube games has been limited to Mario Party 6 and 7, Monkeyball 2, MarioKart Doubledash, and NHL Hitz 05.
Anyone got any suggestions for quality games on the Cube? RPGs especially, I love a good RPG.

Yeah the RPG of the Twin Snakes! Wait... that isn't an RPG at all... oh, well... do yourself a favor and Metal Gear it up.

Tales of Symphonia and Baiten Kaitos are both really fun RPGs for the 'cube. Of the two, I prefer Baiten Kaitos. I haven't had a chance to play Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance yet, but that has also gotten solid reviews.
Oh fuck, and especially Paper Mario. Paper Mario kicks ass.

There are a ton of non-RPG games I'd recommend too:

 Super Smash Brother Melee
 Time Splitters 2
 Super Mario Sunshine
 Soul Calibur 2
 Mortal Kombat: Deception
 Resident Evil 4
 Viewtful Joe
 Viewtiful Joe 2
 Skies of Arcadia Legends
 F-Zero GX
Any of the three Prince of Persia games
 Eternal Darkness
 Bomberman Generation
 Both Metroid Primes
 Windwaker

Probably lots of other stuff that I can't think of.

Obviously some of these are available on other systems. But if you have the choice between buying a game on PS2 or GCN, get it on the 'cube because it will look better. RE4 might be worth getting on PS2 instead since they added in some extra stuff. MK Deception and Soul Calibur 2 are absolutely better on the GCN though. MKD has Shao Kahn and Goro added in to it and SC2 has Link as its exclusive character which is way better than Spawn in the XBox version or Heihachi in the PS2 version.

And if you and 2-3 other people you know have GBAs, Legend of Zelda: The Four Swords and Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles are very fun.

I heard good things about Resident Evil 4, and being an avid survival horror video game player, that was one of the games I planned on picking up. Also, didnt Nintendo re-release the original RE on Gamecube with better graphics and sound? At the time it seemed like a bit of a lame idea, but now that I have the 'Cube, methinks I may have to pick that up as well just for the experience.

I never played the PS version but from what I understand, the GCN version is entirely redone. While the plot remains the same, I guess rooms are all in different places and stuff. Kinda like the second quest in Legend of Zelda.

There's also Resident Evil Zero, which was an all-new game.
They're also remaking RE1 yet again, this time for PSP and DS with four playable characters. Barry, Jill, and Chris are definitely three of them. I don't remember who the fourth is. It would be cool if it was Wesker, but his storyline would have to be way different than the other guys, so it's probably Rebecca or something.

Update: I just purchased my first non-Mario 'Cube game. The decision: Splinter Cell for ten bucks. I have heard good things about this game and for ten dollars, I figure what the hell... I'll give it a whirl.

Skies of Arcadia is a must play. That is seriously one of my favorite games of all time. Super Smash Bros. is one you gotsta get too! The Prince of Persia games are also great.
If you have buddies to play with (or not), Wario Ware and Mario Kart: Double Dash will offer you tons of entertainment.

Tales of Symphonia and Baten Kaitos... If you get them, I recommend turning down the sound and keeping it down. ToS's voice acting is kind of shoddy, but compared to BK's it sounds like Oscar material. Both games are decent, but not the best RPGs out there, and there are a lot of things I dislike about both of them.

I picked up Super Smash Bros. purely on it's reputation as an awesome game. I have played Mario Kart: Double Dash before, and I definitely plan on picking up a copy of my own, I love that game. I wasn't the biggest fan of Wario Ware though... I always thought the Mario Party games were more fun with a similar setup.

Thanks for the heads up on the RPGs- I gotta start getting some of those

Resident Evil 4, good lord, I can't think of any game you need to own more than that. It's the game that just keeps on giving. Mercenaries mode rules and the single player is fun and action packed. I give this game super mega ultra high reccomendation. It's nothing like any of the RE's you've played before, none of the horribly stagnant wandering around and slow gun bullshit. RE4 is just insanely good, it's that simple.
If you really like the slower pace of the old games, yeah, they did make Re 1 for Gamecube. I've played the entire thing through, needless to say it was rather boring and stodgy. They add some new annoyances to piss you off and keep the same retarded camera angle system.

Alright! Something else worth getting for the PSP.

They also remade Mega Man X as "Maverick Hunter X" for the PSP.

Wow, so launch titles excluded, the first worthwhile thing to come out for the PSP is a game you could've played like 8 years ago on the PS1. I hope Sony realizes their blunder and lets Nintendo continue unopposed in the handheld market since no one else seems to do it even remotely well. [/fanboy]

Syd - you prefer Baten Kaitos over Tales of Symphonia? Why, pray tell?
I didn't get all the way through BK, and it's been a while since I last played it. I think I got about 10 hours in and put it down. I've been meaning to get back to it, but just haven't had the time.

In comparison I think I've gone through ToS about 3 times. What I love about that game is the battle system, above all else. The plot is kinda cliched, although I do like Kratos's character.

I haven't played through Skies of Arcadia yet, either... I've gotten about 10 hours in. It's pretty good but I don't see why it gets all the hype it does. Pretty standard fare for an RPG imo, and the characters or plot haven't really drawn me in yet.

Apparently the PSP is getting another transfer in form of Power Stone 1 and 2 . To sell them seperately would probably be a bad idea (but then again so're the PSP's and 360's launch titles).

I couldn't say for sure. I really liked the fighting system in BK though. A lot of people seem to dislike it, but it was a new mechanic for me and I rather enjoyed it. Also, I became absolutely obsessed with getting pictures of everything and doing all the special combos.

Yeah, BK's battle system was definitely refreshing... but I still prefer Tales of Symphonia's. Then again, I'm a whore for big long combos (Guilty Gear, Valkyrie Profile, Tales of Symphonia) so maybe I'm biased.

I also liked a certain plot twist involving the main character, Kalas. I'm not going to spoiler for people who haven't played the game, but it was rather unexpected. The Melodia stuff, not so much.
Baten Kaitos II came out in Japan three days ago and Baten Kaitos DS has been announced for Japan, but has no release date announced. I really hope they both get US releases.
