I haven't paid much attention to the TG-16 games on the VC so far. I bought Bonk's Adventure the first week of the Wii's release, but didn't even bother to finish the game until yesterday. However, that has sparked in me an interest in trying more games from this console I never had back in the day. Which games available now on the Wii VC are worth my time and money? I'll probably download Bonk's Revenge next, since I enjoyed plaything through Bonk's Adventure. More solid platformers are always welcome. I understand the TG-16 had lots of scrolling shooters to choose from. I've never payed much attention to that genre before, but playing through Aegis Wing on the Xbox Live Arcade has me interested in trying some other similar games. *Expects Mr. Bomberman will have plenty to say.*

Yeah, I will have a lotta shit to say.

http://vc-pce.com/usa/e/index.html - That's the list of all Turbo/PC Engine games being released on the Wii VC in the US and Canada.

My recommendations are:

You already bought Bonk's Adventure...

1. Military Madness: The grandaddy of simple non-PC TBS games like Advance Wars. Simple but awesome. And the background music changes during battles, such as if you're about to win, or about to lose.

2. R-Type: It's frickin' R-Type, man, that's al I have to say. It was the best arcade port of that game until it was put on the Playstation, and originally in Japan in 1988, It came out in 2 packs with the different levels spread across it. When it came out in America in 1989, Hudson fit every part of R-Type onto that small lil' HuCard. That's why it's more expensive than the other PC Engine games on VC.

3. Super Star Soldier, Soldier Blade, and Blazing Lazers: Fun ass shooters. This is what the PC Engine was known for.

4.Double Dungeone: If you're a fan of Ultima-like dungeon crawling games, this is yor you.

5.Splatterhouse: Namco's classic horror beat 'em up. Lots of blood and gore, though this was toned down in this version.

6. Dragon's Curse: A port of Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap. It's like a 2D Zelda. There's a lot of intricacies which I can't explain in this one, but fine.

7. Shockman: The only version of the Schbibinman game to hit America. This one is way different from the other ones. It's looks like Megaman on PC engine, except you got 2 player co-op action. It's like Contra and Megaman had a baby. Stages are good and elaborately designed.

8. Bravoman: GET THIS GAME. Don't question me, JUST GET IT. One of Namco's more obscure games, a beat em up/platformer hybrid. Also, this game is FULL OF humor like this when you hit the phonebox in the 2nd level:

Nuff said.

9. Ninja Spirit: an awesome Irem..well... ninja game. Think Ninja Gaiden if it was suddenly on PC engine.

10: Battle Lode Runner: The first VC game ever that made it across to America from Japan where it was originally released in 1993. Comes with a 5-player mulltiplayer. Even if you don't like Lode Runner. Just buy this to support the localization of previously Japan-only games to the VC in North America.

11. Oh yeah. I forgot, BOMBERMAN '93!! 5 players at once!

12. China Warrior: It's wayy better than other "OMG huge ass things fighting on the screen!" games like Altered Beast and Last Battle (hokuto no ken.) combined. And no, I'm dead fuckin' serious. Had NEC packed this in when it launched in America, then The TurboGrafx woulda did some damage in the console wars of the early/mid 90's.

13:Bloody Wolf: Good for fans of Contra-like games.

14: World Sports Competition: Liked Track and Field on the NES? This is pretty much Hudson's take on Konami's game, with more events.

There's more on the Hudson site I listed, but I haven't played most of them, and, well, if you're likin' em, get em on your Wii. These are the American released ones I loved though.

Thanks for the list, Bomberman. So, a full 16 of the 28 TG-16 games currently available on the Wii VC are "Bomberman-approved?" With a success rate of 57% (and the other 43% are just unknowns to you, not necessarily duds), it doesn't look like I can go wrong Very Happy My next purchase was Bonk's Revenge, and it was a big improvement over Bonk's Adventure, which was fun to begin with. I liken the disction to that between Sonic 1 and Sonic 2. Both are good platform games, but the sequel just capitalized on what worked and added stuff that's even better. After beating Bonk's Revenge, I bought Blazing Lazers. It's lots of fun and not so difficult that it becomes needlessly frustrating. I only managed to get to the boss (I presume) of Area-7 before I ran out of continues, but I bet I'll beat the game next time I play through.
