For those of you that haven't heard, there's a new purported audio tape of Bin Laden saying new attacks in the US are imminent and a truce can be made.

Just my opinion, but as far as a truce with Bin Laden goes...

No thanks.

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us.

Plus the terms will be bullshit.

It will go: "Blah, blah, blah, renounce the legitimacy of the evil Zionist empire of Israel, blah blah blah, restore the honorable President Saddam Hussein to power, blah blah blah..."

I think the terms were to pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan and yeah, stop supporting Israel. Whatever. I always thought that the only thing KEEPING Israel from going totally ape shit in the Middle East and stomping the shit out of some countries hostile toward their interests (ahem, Iran) is the US.

Oh well, long story short- Bin Laden's a tool and should kiss our collective ass.

This might seem like an odd question, and trust me, in no way do I want to pass any judgment on anyone's thoughts considering this topic (explicitly stated or implied). I'm not so ethnocentric to think that the US is on the top of anyone's popularity list at present. But your post still begs the question:

If you have no comment on the topic, then why say "out loud" that you have no comment? Seems the easier thing to do would just to literally make no comment.

Israel is one of the few things the US seems to be doing right anymore. I'm curious to see if the adiminstration will even acknowledge this "truce" ideal and what the terms are. I don't think they should make any sort of truce, but it's still an option, albeit far from me to criticize the government for not displaying maximum option viewing potential...

The no comment thing I believe was fine. This board is an interactive congregation, so everyone's opinion is welcomed. Saying you have no comment isn't spam, it's letting everyone know your stance on the subject. Neutrality is just as valid as being one one side or the other, so no worries Jo_thepirate. Very Happy

In his message, Osama bin Laden also endorsed a book by William Blum called Rogue State: A Guide to the World's Only Superpower. Here's what the author had to say about the endorsement:

"I was quite surprised and even shocked and amused when I found out what he'd said. I was glad. I knew it would help the book's sales and I was not bothered by who it was coming from."

"If he shares with me a deep dislike for the certain aspects of U.S. foreign policy, then I'm not going to spurn any endorsement of the book by him. I think it's good that he shares those views and I'm not turned off by that."

What a fucking douchebag. It's perfectly reasonable to dislike American foreign policy, but to actually accept an endorsement from Osama is both disgusting and deplorable.

I don't know. If Hitler had seen "The Great Dictator" with Chaplin, I think Chaplin would've used that to the film's credit. Alas... no such luck. Although, I do hear Hitler did see the movie...

Well, "The Great Dictator" was an anti-Hitler short, so it would have been quite bizarre if Hitler liked it and I don't think Chaplin would have necessarily appreciated it.

But that's an entirely situation anyway. Rogue State is an anti-US book written before 9/11 that criticizes the US while refusing to make a moral judgment on the terrorists who attack Western civilization. Now if Osama came out in favor of Team America: World Police, that would be interesting.

Actually, it's a full length feature (and nominated for 'Best Picture' by that bastard Academy). Chaplin did invite Hitler to screen the film with him, to which Hitler declined. Later, Hitler ordered the movie to be screened for him privately. Chaplin was quoted after hearing Hitler saw it, "I'd give anything to know what he thought of it". Now, whether or not Chaplin would use Hitler's thoughts as part of the marketing will never be known.

All I know is, Hitler killed himself... or lived in a giant robot. Whichever.

Well then we obviously can't accept the truce, because he'll want us to give him Jack Bauer as part of the deal. Or the Russian president. Or Mike Novak. He'll definitely want someone though. Probably a man, probably for sex.

If we gave him Jack, the war would end, because Jack Bauer would get over there and end it once and for all. He'd probably lose his puppy in the process, but Jack is the ultimate Patriot.

What about Mel Gibson as Benjamin Martin? Jack Bauer is pretty patriotic, but he never impaled a dodgy redcoat with the American flag.

Just wait.

Wait a minute, didn't Mel Gibson also kill someone with the flag in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington? I wonder if that was a reference to Patriot...

The Simpsons episode originally aired on 09/26/99. The Patriot premiered on June 27, 2000. The Simpsons episode aired first, but The Patriot script was probably written first, so I think it's just a coincidence.
