Game Number One: Fire Striker
System: Super Nintendo
Genre: Action/Puzzle
Publisher: DTMC Inc.
"Once upon a time, there were four kingdoms in close proximity to each other, each ruled by four constantly warring factions. One day, the Arch-Mage Wylde came up with a solution to the non-stop fighting. Whoever could control the magical orb known as the Trialight would become the FireStriker, as well as the ruler of all four kingdoms. What the people didn't know was that Wylde had an ulterior motive, and he used this proposition making it easier for him to destroy all four kingdoms at once. It's up to you, as Slader, the last FireStriker, to risk everything and destroy Wylde and his clan of evil monsters. The fate of the many empires is a heavy burden to bear, but you've got the skills to succeed. The only question is, will you?"
Fire striker is in all sense; pure gaming bliss.
It's essentially what would happen if you took a game like secret of mana and combined it with arkanoid.
The game is combatable for two players if you want it to be.
One controls the Red Knight and one controls a tiny blue wizard.
If need be in one player however, a single players can control the wizard with the L and R buttons on the controller.
If you havent played this game by now - you should.
Game Number Two: Sword Master
System: NES
Genre: Action/Adventure
Publisher: ??? (Data East?)
Sword master is a classic. From the cinematic (For it's time) opening to the ending. Sword master is one of those (Few) fun NES games that breaks the killing trend. Like The legend of zelda II you scroll through each area at a decent pace killing what stands in your path. But that isn't what Sword Master is about. Sword master (Again, much like the second zelda game) gives you a shield.
The game isn't about killing everyhting in your path so much as
going toe-to-toe with each enemy attacking and defending at the right time.
Each enemy encounter in Sword Master is like a boss fight unto itself (with the exception of the minor, one-hit-kill enemies like the bats and wolves). When you meet a new foe, you must learn how best to deal with it. Just barely getting by will not cut it, since you may have to fight the same enemy twice in one stage, or something worse might come after it. This is the kind of game where the main boss of a stage becomes a mini-boss in the very next. Much of the challenge of these bosses comes from intimidation. When you approach a new boss, you won't know what to do. You'll either hesitate in trying to think of a plan or rush right in. Either way, you'll probably get clobbered, especially against the tougher guys. Once you know exactly how close you need to jump toward an enemy, and how best to defend or evade its attacks, it's a matter of just being really aggressive.
Game Three: Kendo Rage
System: SNES
Genre: Action/Platformer
Publisher: SETA USA Inc.
Developer: Seta Corporation
Story:
Jo is about to embark on the world's strangest summer vacation. She is really interested in kendo, Japanese fencing, and her parents have sent her to Japan to study with Osaki. In addition to being a kendo master, he also looks like a green-haired cyberpunk. Things only get stranger when he gives Jo a talisman that will transform her into a superhero from the ‘70s. Do battle in seven rounds of 360-degree swordplay. When the time is right, you can unleash a power-up attack for extra damage.
What to say about this game. Kendo rage is possibly one of the best games for SNES i have ever played. It somewhat reminds me of VALIS to a certain medium. The rate at wich you blaze through level hacking through each cute enemy you face.
The game has an interesting goal though, You aren't supposed to use powerups. Well nto when you get them. They use precious life (I mean it. This game is pretty difficult)
But you need to save them - For shooting beams of energy from your sword to changing into a superhero from the 70's
Another thing is - you can't use the same tactic twice.
One time your sword could be long, the next it's like a butterknife but it shoots energy.
Kendo rage is a must play for any hardcore fanatic
First and foremost, It's going to be updated occasionally. We have one game tonight for first.
Name: Holy Diver
Company: IREM
System NES
Holy diver is a fairly noteworthy castlevania
clone for the nes developed and published by IREM
It's out of the same vein, Demons castles and all that
(Surprisingly no swimming to be done that i've seen)
It get's it's name from a bands album named dio from the 80's
It's got really good gameplay with some questionable enemy design
(Zombies are replaced by midgits in red hoods wtf)
And solid graphics for it's time. By solid graphics I mean
"Alot of sprites are castlevania ripoffs"
It's fairly short (Six stages) But has it's challenging bits and some decently fine blips and beeps of a soundtrack.
The game is traditional fantasy romp through a castle. Fine platforming bits here an there.
What couldn't you ask for (Besides whips and vampires, that is)
Unfortunately the game only comes in two flavors. Japanese and Mandarin. You wil be getitng the japanese version in this Pack
(Later)
Game:
Ninja Rinseout
By: OneMoreLevel
System: Web Browser (!)
http://arcadepod.com/games/play.php?id=ninjarinseout
Ninja Rinseout is this month's Copout.
It's a fine and very simplistic web browser game.
There are no magic spells, Fireballs or dragons.
It's a classic quest to save the princess Stealth action style.
You get two attacks. Standing and ducking.
The objective is to take out the enemy without being spotted which is easier said then done. Witht he ability of wall run and a falling slash (That's it for specials) You've got to Wait and think when to attack. It's pure gaming bliss in browser form
Name: BAHAMUT LAGOON
Company: Squaresoft (Or Square Enix rather)
Year: 1996
System: SNES
If you cant tell it's the best looking game on the SNES
Released in JAPAN in 1996 Bahamut lagoon
was possibly the best game for the SNES
A SRPG Of no other bahamut lagoon makes you use that brain to the fullest. Heal this unit or transport his dragoon?
Will these mages erradicate me if i attack here?
Bahamut lagoon has had it's share of controversy. Like msot JAP games Every translation patch that attempted always failed or died.
(The same with fireemblem) But hellf roze over in 2002 when the most talented rom translation group combined there forces and released the full patch.
Name: Chakan The Forevor Man
Developer: SEGA
Platform: Sega Genesis
It has been so long...
So very long...
I have hunted evil for no less then a thousand years. Yet, I remember
well how this pain started... as though it were just yesterday
When my blood was warm, I was a great warrior. Neither man nor beast
could best me in mortal combat.
Then, in my arrogance, I said one day even death himself will bow
before my swords...
He smiled and said from a man of death from death himself, a wager.
If you win, eternal life is yours. If I win, you soul is mine to do
with as I wish. foolishly I accepted...
With sword and spell, we clashed toe to toe. The world trembled at
our unleashed powers.
I attacked with such fury and might, that even death himself was
taken aback, and then, incredibly, felled.
I toppled the master and he granted my reward. I am cursed to live
until all supernatural evil is destroyed.
I hunt...
and fight...
and kill,
until the end of my curse.
Only then will I be able to seek solitude and forever rest.
The game begins in a central hub world, with access to the four stages of the game. Each stage is comprised of three, very, very fucking difficult sections.
1. The introduction, a new weapon is always acquired here
2. The middle, much more difficult and trap ridden.
3. The boss
After each section, you will be warped back to the hub. However, each stage is timed.
Even if you exit and re-enter a stage, the time limit (Represented by an hourglass) will remain where it was when you left. You can use the potions you can gather to power up your weapons, such as surrounding your swords in cold fire to do a variety of effects, from turning the hourglass to letting you jump higher.
