I just bought GT4 at Wal-Mart because it was in the $20.00 game bin and I heard it was one of the best racing games out there. Well, it just isn;t working out for me. Whenever I try to race my car goes slow as fuck and the E-brake doesn't do shit. I know I have to be doing something wrong, and I'm sire it's just a stupid mistake a newbie at the game would make. So what I'm trying to say here is: Can anyone help me play this?

For starters, you're using the e-brake in a simulation game. Unless you're on a rally course, you should avoid it. Even then, it's only really used for sharp hairpins.

But uhh, I dunno. Maybe your controller is fucked? I know it sounds silly, but one of my PS2 controllers is wonked to heck. The analog sticks don't respond right, and the shoulder buttons fire as they see fit.

If it's not your controller, which I'm guessing it's not, and even mentioning that is an insult to your intelligence, then I'm fucking clueless.

if you don't use the E-brake then how do you get around corners and stuff?

The trick is to find the perfect apex of the turn, let off the gas, make sure you are not going to fast, and once you hit the turn throttle your way out of it. If you are still hitting your brakes when you start turning the wheels, you're f'ed.

Also, I don't know if it helps, but GT4 takes advantage of the anologue buttons. So, the harder you hit X, the more throttle you give it.

Gran Turismo with a controller sucks. Get the Driving Force, or Driving Force EX wheel and it's badical.

The Driving Force EX wheel is orgasmifying. It has 900 degrees of movement as opposed to 360 found on the original Driving Force wheel. Oh, and a clutch.

Both awesome, though.

Hell if I know, I got both of mine used. One for $30, and the other for $50.

Get a Logitech G25, and you'll never need another wheel again.

Eliminates flex so you can brake and accelerate with more precision. The clutch pedal is positioned for heel-and-toe downshifting, keeping your gear changes quick and your RPMs high.

Six-speed shifter (w/ Leather-wrapped shift knob)
Choose exactly the right gear for the turn, or select Reverse with a realistic 'push-down' action.

Sequential shift mode
Switch between 6-speed and sequential shifting modes.

CONS:

$299.99

I've been trying to see if I get one off e-bay for around $150.00, but so far no luck. I have the original PS2 Driving Force (The blue one that came out with GT3.) Which is a decent controller for GT3/4 and my PC racers, but I am ready for something better, and the G25 is it.

I am simply drooling thinking about how much fun Test Drive Unlimited will be on my PC with one of those wheels. Razz

or you could just use the analog sticks for gas and brake, thats the combo i use for all driving games i play on PS2. I feel the analog stick gives you the proper control for throttle as well as gas. Atleast thats my own opinion. Plus who really plays Gran Turismo anymore anyways...Beta testing Mario Kart Wii at the moment.

We play it because it's the ONLY driving/racing simulator available on the PS2.
