What an amazing series. I've beaten all three of the games that have come out in America, and am on my way to beat a few of the japan only ones. The thing I like about the Fire Emblem series is that unlike other Nintendo games, the characters in Fire Emblem are actually well developed, and the games have excellent stories. (Not trying to diss other Nintendo games, but any sensible person should agree they don't have good stories or character development).
It's a shame the games don't get that much recognition here; the GBA Fire Emblems sold fairly well, but Path of Radiance for the Gamecube had pretty bad sales. (This was probably due to it coming out late in the Gamecube's life span, plus Turn based strategy games generally don't do good on home consoles). The next game, Goddess of Dawn, for the Wii, is already out in Japan, but should come out here soon. I'm just hoping it gets better sales than Path Of Radiance; this series really doesn't get enough recognition.

I love the Fire Emblem games ^^
I still haven't beaten Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu (people have translated it) for the SNES. That game is long.
edit: But also, I think, the high point for the series.

Hell yeah, it's a great series! My copy of Sacred Stones has been played so much the contacts are getting fucked up. I haven't gotten much chance to play Path of Radiance, but I plan to beat that and Twilight Princess over the summer, among other games.

Awesome, Path of Radiance is my favorite game in the series, folowed by Blazing Sword, then Sacred Stones (Out of the ones I've beaten). I have to say, I didn't like Sacred Stones near as much as the other two, though. Good game, but not great. The story was generally cliche and bland, and I never really liked the characters. Lack of difficulty really bothered me, even on hard mode. It seemed like the AI didn't have any kind of strategy other than just attack you head on like idiots.

Oh, the AI in Sacred Stones is moronic until about 3/4 of the way through, and it still pales in comparison to AWDS Hard Campaign.

i love the fire emblem series! i own and have beaten the one for gba and sacred stones. and i have a couple ROMS of the SNES version. ive only translated one though, and i just havent gotten around to playing it. i also played one for the NES thats pretty fun. its like a mix between fire emblem and an rpg. i have path of radiance but its nowhere near as good as the 2d versions. the character animations are pretty half-assed and with the gba if one of your characters dies you can just turn the game off and restart. but with the gamecube you have to get up and turn it off and then turn it back on and then skip through all the ads etc etc.

Half-assed? I thought the animations were excellent, especially Ike's Aether animation. Also, you didn't appreciate the characters, story, and awesome gameplay? Because your two gripes are pretty stupid, they don't have much relevance on the acutal game at all.

Yeah, seriously. Have you seen Cormag's Pierce critical (which works on my copy, even though it's supposed to glitch and freeze the game)?

isnt Cormag in one of the ones for the gba?
as for the animations, they were just slow, and like with titania (?) her horse would gallop like two steps up to the enemy and stab him with her lance. they were just really choppy and kind of unrealistic when compared to the gba games. i dont know, maybe im not making much sense. its kind of hard to explain.

Yeah. I thought you meant the GBA animations sucked. Path of Radiance's animations are kind of lacking.

It still doesn't have much bearing on the actual game. That's the point I was trying to make.

Actually there is a way to restart it with the controler i believe, you can do the same for Final Fantasy Tactics.
Personally my problem with those games, is they need higher difficulty levels... there are few fights that are challenging, and most of themn are challenging because i want to get a new character or soemthing, or catch a theif before he runs off the screen.
I was pissed once i found out my theif couldn't evolve into an assassin... how retarded.

I'm pretty sure for FFT at least... you can restart the game by holding R1, R2 and L1, L2, as well as start adn select all at the same time...
And if you have athe GBA/DS version there is way to restart any fire-emblem game on there too.. it's like AB, with start select all held down together at the same time. (something like that for the DS)

PoR was good, but on the subject of the crappy battle animations, anyone else notice the horses' legs bent backwards? Only on cavaliers, not paladins. Bugged the hell out of me.
The first Fire Emblem is still my favorite!

I've never played it, what kind of game is it? Is it like FF Tactics or something? Which game in the series is the best one to start on if I've never played one?

It's like Tactics but better. I'd start with Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones for GBA. Or you can find some (badly) translated SNES ROMS of Fire Emblem Thraki 776.

If you plan on playing all the American releases eventually, I'd recommend starting with Fire Emblem for GBA. Mostly because Sacred Stones and Path of Radiance have special fearures that the first one doesn't.

I think i liked the one before sacred stones better... and yes it's like FFT... it's better in some ways worse in other ways.
I liked some of the class combos in FFT, and the graphics and story-line were alright...
And the GBA fire-emblem just had some neat characters, and some cool moves, that i liked about it. It also had some tricky battles.. like i remember a battle this may have been in Path of Radiance for the GC., but the only way to get this character, was to use character to walk up behind your main character, and do a move called like push or something.. and push your main character like 3 times or so, using most of your guys to do it, then when it was his turn (ike's i think) he would only then be able to walk up and reach this guy so you can talk to him, and convert him to your team, while at the same time saving him from dying.
If you didn't get that byu like the second turn or something, he basically died, the battle was on a ship... So they have some fun stuff like that going on, also one thing over tactics, is that choke points are more readily usable, it was harder in tactics to block foes in... As far as beign able to beat the game it wasn't that hard, but it was fun... I also think you could have more people than you could use in FFT, not posistive though...
I'd recommend playing it if you liked FFT, their comparable games, in both play style, and quality... can't diecide what i liked better.

Its a turn based stratagy game similar to FF tactics. You get an assortment of units (knights, warriors, pegasus riders, etc), and command them to defeat your enemies. Standard rock-paper-scissors tactics based on whether you weild axes, swords, or spears, and a seperate one for magic users.
Don't let your characters die. If a character falls, they are gone for good.

Well, at least until you reset the game. But losing a guy at the boss can be a bitch, especially on the later levels.
