Mike Nelson, who was once the host of Mystery Science Theater 3000 after Joel Hodgson left the show, has started an online version of film lampooning called RiffTrax, wherin the listener gets to download MP3 files to play along with popular films, kind of like a constant commentary track.
So far, films have included the new Star Wars trilogy and Lord of the Rings, as well as favorites such as The Matrix and Star Trek V. Because it's just people talking about the movie, and doesn't actually contain content from the films, there is no law or limit to what they can do. The downloads cost anywhere from $.99 to $3.99 each, and they are made to be played in conjunction with DVD versions of the films they support.
The RiffTrax team not only features Nelson, but also the gents who were the voices of Tom Servo and even Crow on the original MST3K show. Nelson maintains that they've now sold 'hundreds of thousands' of copies of the streaming web content, which would make Mr. Michael Nelson one very rich man, indeed.
