I just realized something: Usually I have problems with Neo-Geo based roms, but I've just found out that you need to have a Neo-Geo executable in your Roms folder for them to run.

What you need is the Neo-Geo BIOS. It's not an executable, it's a supplementary ROM set that the game needs to run. Similarly, you need a ROM of the FDS BIOS to run FDS games. There are a couple of other BIOS files you need for various other games, but I forget what they are. I think Deco Cassette might be one.
