I caught the end of Children of the Corn the other day... I had forgot how awkwardly that movie ends. Instead of ending it with the logical shot of Linda Hamilton, the guy, and the kids walking away, they end it with a goofy one-liner. Hell, we didn't even get a freeze frame.

What are some other good examples of movies that didn't have proper endings? Anything that ends on a freeze frame counts.

Most recent cookie cutter horror movies - y'know, mainly the ones on on demand. Half of them either don't bother to give the killer(s) motivation, and the other half have the killers win. Then there's Japanese Horror, which does both of those. Thank God for the Saw Trilogy. At least it makes sense for the killer to win in those.

It's cliche to say it now (thank you Clerks 2) but Return of the King. Peter Jackson just loved all his ending ideas so much, he couldn't bear to part with them!

Hannibal: Hey guess what, in the book, she LEAVES with him! Doesn't that make a whole lot more sense than just "I'm going to cut my hand off now and escape! Watch me escaping!"

OMG! You did NOT just trash JoyRide! One of my favorite thriller films (and from uber-master J.J. Abrams ^_^ ).

For one, Candycane was Paul Walker's character! The killer was "Rusty Nail". The second is that the movie had several alternate endings. Most of them where you found out who Rusty Nail was and they all sucked. He was some deformed lumberjack-like burly man. Third, JoyRide is not the traditional horror film and I'm glad it's a self contained little urban legend-fear story. Though with "Hollowman 2" and "The Butterfly Effect 2", I could see JoyRide getting the same treatment from lesser talented people... unless, it was me making it for video. In which case, it would be super awesome. Cool

Ok there homeboy, I did not dis the movie! I was saying that I simply did not like the ending!!! I loved the rest of it! I like movies that actually have me mildly freaked out walking home from the theatre! Especially when the big truck drove by... eek!

I'm not even gonna start into what I thought of The Butterfly Effect...

The 40 Year Old Virgin doesn't end right. It just degenerates into a music video for "Age of Aquarius".

The Butterfly Effect is a great movie, and the alternate ending in the director's cut make it a piece of artistic genius.

Yeah, that was disappointing.

Isn't in the first version, that trucker jackass decide that his girlfriend's life will be better off without his interference.

Except that their father is still a pedophile, and she's gonna have first impression issues to boot?

Oh, and the short story that it came from, bullshit. Ya know what happens when you go back in time and kill a butterfly? Another one of the insignificant millions take its place. No big deal.

Yes, except she never gets abused by her father because she goes to live with her mother instead. The first impression stuff isn't an issue in the director's cut, because she ends up never meeting him because.....well, that would be a spoiler.

Oh, I disagree on the artistic angle. Shocking? Maybe. Untraditional. Definitely. But did the movie earn the darker ending? I'm still undecided. I do prefer the theatrical version, not just because of the ending, but also because they had the sense to cut that scene they added in the DC with the fortune teller - worst acting in the film. There's a review I did for the director's cut floating around somewhere on the internet. I think I wussed out and said I preferred one of the cut endings... now that's a problem.

However, "Butterfly Effect" is the one film I thought Ashton had potential to rise above Kelso... but so far... no. No.

One more film to mention:
Police Story - Several Hong Kong films just end after the bad guy dies. Police Story is one of them. I recently got the Dragon Dynasty release and saw they shot an epilogue that consisted of two additional shots after the last one. It added maybe an extra forty seconds to the film, but I felt much more resolution with it. There's still some missing subplots that were left unresolved, but the bridge was better than nothing.

In my opinion, it's the only film he has rose above stupid comedy. I really don't understand why so many people like him - and I was a huge That 70s Show fan.

Kind of general, but I'd say Robocop 2 fits the bill.

That's only because "Robocop 3" didn't pick up a few of those threads. They should've just done what Miller wanted in the first place. Evil
