Jesus Christ. New Line Cinema is REMAKING Escape from New York.

Because you know how it's so old and stuff. I hear they're remaking The Matrix for next year and Casino Royale next week. In fact, they just started filming a remake of Michael Bay's Transformers movie scheduled to be released the day after his.

John Carpenter films should not be remade. They're too good. What's next? Are we gonna start remaking Scorcese films? If they insist on remaking it, they better at least get Kurt Russell to be the president. Or maybe Cabbie.

And yes, I just compared Carpenter to Scorcese.

I'd rather see a Carpenter movie than a Scorcese movie anyway.

Ya know what, I don't like gangster films. I'm not all that fond of that angry midget he's always hiring, and I'm sick of that guy's eybrows.

Give me some john carpenter. I want rowdy roddy piper beating up the navy announcer. I want battling with ancient spirits under chinatown, I want freaky looking aliens in antartica.

Yeah, after "The Fog" I would agree... But I was a strong advocate for "The Fog" remake before they made it. The first film was not as good as it should've been and a remake could've gotten it right. Alas, they made it worse. Much worse. And I like Tom Welling and Maggie Grace...

"Escape From New York" may be a little campy now, but it's still good. Not to mention they already remade it with that sequel.

Know what Carpenter movie they should remake? "Prince of Darkness". I like the movie, but it could be so much better.

It would only be better if someone like you remade it. Most horror directors these days seem to spend very little time on exposition, especially the type who get hired to do remakes.

I saw the film when it first came out on video and it scared the hell out of me. Then I saw it again a few years ago and laughed my ass off. The film is such a cheese-fest and campy - Not to mention the obvious Twin Peaks influence. I can't believe I ever found it scary.

If they remade it as a serious horror film, changed some of the story details, and it resembled how I remembered it, I think it could be really good. There's potential there.

I loved it for it's humor.

I don't know if there is an official genre name for such films, but I have always refer to such movies as "Slapstick Horror".

Of which, the grand daddy was Evil Dead 2.

Russell fumed about the remake to Entertainment Weekly, especially the casting of a Scottish actor to succeed him as one-eyed badass Snake Plissken. "I will say that when I was told who was going to play Snake Plissken, my initial reaction was 'Oh, man!' [Russell winces]. I do think that character was quintessentially one thing. And that is, American," the actor advised EW.com.

To Russell, his Escape From New York anti-hero wasn't just any other role. "People come up to me and say, 'You played Snake Plissken.' I didn't play Snake Plissken, I created him!"

He is also adamantly against the idea of making a cameo or playing any other role in it. "(Expletive) that! I am Snake Plissken! It's like Sean Connery always watching someone else do their version of Bond. I think one of the things, for instance, about Escape From New York that appealed to me was that it wasn't a special effects extravaganza. It's a quiet, dark world and it revolved around watching the behavior of this one guy. He's a fascinating character. In fact, he's the most complex character I've ever played."

Owned. I win, the end.

I'm thinking we should probably move some of this into the Remake From New York thread, because that's what we seem to have strayed into.

An Escape From New York remake = dumb.

An Escape From New York sequel with Kurt Russell, however, would be awesome.

As long as the plot isn't a retread like L.A. was. Strangely, I saw L.A. in the theatre before I had even seen New York. When I finally saw the original, I was disappointed because the story was the same as LA. I should have seen NY first.

Syd, you never disappoint me.

NY was way more badass than LA, it's true. Snake throwing the world into darkness is kinda cool though. But they basically did that at the end of NY, with the jazz music instead of the peace tape.

I concur.

Wait, why haven't I moved it yet? Question

The main attraction with Escape from L.A. was all the jokes about L.A. and the cameos and such. Snake having to play basketball was pretty awesome.

I was really disappointed when the Escape From Earth rumor was shot down. There was also supposed to be an Escape From New York game for the 360 written by John Carpenter and starring Kurt Russell as Snake, but apparently it's been cancelled. Sad Thanks alot XBox RoboCop, you've ruined 80s movies remade as games for everyone.

Yeah that RoboCop game came out on PC as well, and it was trash. All they had to do was make it so you have an aimbot coded in, it's kinda a bad idea for an FPS anyway.

I'd like to see a good Escape from NY game, maybe with realtime multiplayer, so you had to survive in New York amongst the various factions, or on your own.

There was a TFC variant that was sorta like Escape From New York. I think it was called President or something like that. I'm pretty sure it was at least partially based of EFNY, because the President looks a lot like Donald Pleasance. There were two teams, one who scored by successfully escorting the President to the goal and one who scored by killing the President.... it was pretty funny.

Dude, protect the VIP mode. I fucking loved that. Being the snipers or the VIP were both fun and rewarding.

Being the VIP, everyone fucking loves you and all you have to your name is an umbrella against a small squad of dudes with instagib sniper rifles...hahahah what fun.
