Nintendo always manages to get it right, especially on the n64. i cant get enough of running around with mario in mario 64. Wall jumping, and doing aerials and whatnot can get you to places in ways not intended, and thats awesome. his acrobatics are awesome, the physics in that game are awesome. Mariokart 64 is pretty good as well, the drifitng is ridiculous, also alucard moves very badasslike in symphony of the night.

thoughts??

HL2's physics are fucking terrible. They didn't even write the engine themselves, they just liscenced it out from a team.

Seriously, the way shit interacts in that game is laughable. Not to mention that there's always horrible CPU lag from 5 barrels banging together. Also, shit is delayed horribly in multiplayer. Basically it's retarded.

My favorite game physics are in SkiStunt. I've had endless hours of entertainment with that game, and ragdoll crashing is fucking hilarious.

Ninja Gaiden series for the NES. You're telling me I'm a trained ninja who can cling to walls, but the instant the shoulders of a man in combat fatigues touch me I get flung up and back about 10 feet (often right down into the collection of bottomless pits that are always where I choose to be)? That always annoyed me the most, and still ranks tops for game physics weirdness for me.

Cheers,

Andrew

I can think of quite I few games where I like the physics, but I'm going to list some that I dislike:

Mort the Chicken (PSX) - The game is just totally disgusting.
Karate Kid (NES) - Watch out for twigs and birds that knock you a few feet back, then subsequently pits.
Multiple Games - Not being able to swim. It may make sense in a few games, but mostly it doesn't. Either make it a pit or have a good explanation for why it kills touch.

RIP Hacker.

Metal Gear Solid - Twin Snakes cutscenes. Real fucking crimewave against laws of pyschics.
I really fucking hate the cutscenes in MGS-TTS, but it's rather fun when you start making fun out of it

That reminds me: does anyone know where I can see all of those without them being WAY out of sync?

There's no real need to. Just find some Ryuhei Kitamura's movie and you can see enough insane shit.

But if you must, the following link will lead to couple of the MGS-TTS cutscenes:

I own one -- Godzilla: Final Wars. One of the greatest movies of all time.

Probably the physics engine in Halo 2. The Half-Life 2 physics engine is good, but it seems to do away with friction. It's fun to screw around with, in Half-Life, but it's like everything is on ice.

I had a lot of fun in Halo 2, just playing around with the physics engine online.

you mean you DIDN'T like snake backflipping onto a missile, and then using it's momentum to cartwheel kick another missile out of it's trajectory? dumbest shit ever. totally threw the game off.

The MGS remake on gamecube was basically just 5 hours of cutscenes of spinning around dumb looking characters that padded 1 hour of shitty gameplay.

I wouldn't go that far at all. in fact I loved it. it was prettier, it had a lot of the game mechanics from MGS2 added in (such as being able to aim and shit in first person view) and had some cool bonuses.

MGS1 was my favorite, with 2 falling way behind, and 3 being unplayable to me. in fact it's the only one I considered to have a sensical storyline and stuff.

My favorite game physics were probably in the 1992 Sierra PC game The Incredible Machine. The entire game was all about physics. You got to play around with seesaws, cannons, dynamite, tennis balls, cats, and other various things. There were a whole bunch of puzzle levels, and then there was a free form mode where you could build whatever you wanted. It was awesome.

Dude wow, how did I forget that game? TIM was the shit. I remember how happy I was when I found out a friend of mine had the full version, with the floppy disks and real manual...I played that game for ungodly amounts of time.

I always liked making a huge clusterfuck of bouncy things and pistols and stuff, and having the little guy get bounced around until he was knocked out. Or just make a simple thing that dropped a bird cage on a pair of scissors so somehow the trigger was pulled on a gun, shooting a cat in the ass.

Basically it could be hours of fun just dropping heavy stuff on cats or shooting cats, but you could also make elaborate machines.

There was nothing more satisfying than that cat's screech after you shoot it in the ass.

It's on The-Underdogs if I'm not mistaken. As well as that SkiStunt game I was talking about earlier...

just search there

Another good game worth checking out is ElastoMania. You play as a guy on a motorcycle who's goal it is in life to collect apples without bumping your head.

Best game physics ever: Deus Ex. The world felt so real. I once beat a mission by stacking up poisonous gas barrels next to a doorway with a laser tripwire, then setting off the alarm by throwing a pillow through it. The guards came runnin' and gunnin', and I blasted the barrels open in their face and offed a good five or six of 'em pretty quickly. Or another time, I cleared a base of guards by dropping a crate of TNT three stories down a hole in the building to hit some explosive barrels on the ground. It was very, very tasty.

I always found the physics in Tetris to be dead on.
Gravity increases with time.
