From http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/2007/03/03/snk-president-talks-about-neo-geo-on-the-vc/:

"Ben Herman, who runs SNK Playmore USA, is almost as excited about Neo-Geo games on the Virtual Console as we are. In a recent interview, he discussed SNK's VC plans and Nintendo's operation of the system in general.

According to Herman, who, of course, can't give details, SNK expects to release "a certain limited number of titles per month," which is enough to have us cheering, because that's a lot more than the N64 is getting. It's also a much brisker release schedule than the Neo-Geo ever had. The best news, in our opinion? Herman is interested in the Virtual Console as a means of releasing lesser-known and niche games.

SNK isn't sure yet whether the Neo-Geo games on the VC will be the AES home versions or the MVS arcade cartridges. We had no idea there was a difference!

Of course, there has to be bad news, and it's kind of big: Herman says that Nintendo is not letting publishers add online functionality to games, VC or retail, and probably will continue this restriction throughout 2007.

Herman goes on to talk about Nintendo's console library, saying that Nintendo has all of the code for third-party NES and SNES games and needs only permission to release them. Which means Konami officially has no excuse for the fact that we haven't played Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse on the Wii yet. Konami, you're on notice!"

Are you fucking kidding me? What the fuck is the point of having a contact list then? So I can trade Miis and send messages that I could send a lot faster via AIM or MySpace? Gaaaaaaaaaaaay.

Not allowing online functionality in their VC games? That's it. For the next 10 minutes, Nintenblows!

EDIT: I suspect that in 2008, some "online editions" of VC games will be released.

So was this news just to put padding on the bigger punch in the dick of "no online for VC"?

I don't mind the VC thing so much... The VC games are supposed to be unadulterated, unedited versions of the classic games complete with typos, glitches, and whatever else. To add new features to VC games undermines this ideal.

But it's stupid that NEW games can't utlize online play. What the fuck is the point of having a Wii Smash Bros. if I can't bash the shit out of people in other countries?

I've always thought LSD would be a better drug to be on during a shooting spree.

Actually he said 3rd party companies aren't getting that in. Nintendo properties are most likely an entirely different beast.

What "original castlevania" are you guys reffering to? There's one on the MSX that predates the NES?

Is it by any chance that arcade game that's fucking impossibly hard?

The NES one came first. The MSX remake was distributed in Japan one month later.

Well, the games were developed at roughly the same time.

The MSX game known to us as Vampire Killer was released in Japan as Akumajou Dracula in October of 1986.

The NES game known to us as Castlevania was released in Japan as Akumajou Dracula in September of 1986.

The two games are VERY different though, and it's not fair to call either one a port or a remake.
