I'm just curious if anyone here pays attention to the Sci-Fi channel reimagining of "Battlestar Galactica". I honestly don't follow TV anymore (no time, and the quality of most shows is abysmal), but over the summer I caught up on this show via the DVD releases and absolutely LOVE it.
I know it's a controversial show, for two reasons -- 1) It shares very little in common with the 70's ABC series and this pisses a lot of fans off. I have no particular allegience to that show and what I have seen seems kind of corny, so I don't really care about that. Also, 2) some people think it's very heavy-handed in its criticisms of the current administration, which I guess applies to a degree, but I feel the show is more about general human situations and the effects of war on us as people. I guess as an addendum, a lot of people hate the "creator" of this version, Ron Moore, who's blamed with helping to kill the "Star Trek" franchise. Again, I can't really testify to this (never did like "Trek" much... I've always been more into stars of the "Wars" variety, if you catch my drift), but he seems to be handling THIS show pretty well.
What saddens me is that there's new news circulating about NBC taking control of the series for its own main Network weeknight lineup, which could effectively destroy the show if it's watered down at all. But I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I had a thread with I think the exact same name. I'd post a link, but in a hurry to get to class. But yeah, Battlestar Galactica is the greatest show on television.

Whoops. Sorry if I repeated the topic, then. That's what I get for only looking at the first page.
Also, an update: According to NBC, the rumors of them airing BSG instead of SciFi are false. Here's to hoping.

Thread #434
And until otherwise they won't be merged, because this isn't Wikipedia. And a thread with just Jeebus is damn amusing.

Yeah, no need to merge. For some reason I thought there was an actual discussion, lol. As for the NBC thing, that sucks because the show needs to be seen by everyone. I cna't believe how good it is.

Yeah, the only problem is, moving it to a prime-time slot on NBC would've effectively forced them to "water it down" a lot. The 7 to 10 PM major network rotation doesn't usually tolerate suicide bombings and pregnant lady rape, so we might've lost a lot of the darkness associated with the show. I'm fine with it on SciFi and, apparently, so are the cast and crew.
But goddamn, yeah. This show is phenomenal. I can't wait to see what happens on Friday.

I don't watch it currently (too many shows going as it is), but I plan on catching up some day.
NBC is in an odd place right now in terms of its line up and ratings. A few of their returning shows have gotten lower ratings than last year while their new shows, except 'Sunset Strip', haven't exactly caught fire yet (though we're all hoping "Heroes" comes out ahead).
Would BSG do better on network? I honestly believe the show would not be "watered down" from its current tone and plots on network television; shows seem to be encouraged to "push the envelope" these days. The problem is sci-fi shows on networks always seem to do poorly. My arguement to keeping it on cable is that if it isn't broke, don't fix it.
Plenty of people have been endorsing the show: the producers of "Lost" and Kevin Smith for example. I'm in no fear of the show getting cancelled in the near future; it has legs.

I'm just confused since Laura Roslin was in the previews for the rest of the season but was also in that death march...guess they miss her? lol

I was reading some pretty far-out theories about the Roslin thing. One person even said that the gunfire you hear at the end of the episode isn't actually the Centurions firing, because it doesn't have the same steady "rhythm" that their weapons usually do, indicating that something else happens. I don't exactly know about that. My guess is that something gets between her the gunfire and she's able to bolt (something like, say, Tom Zarek?) . I honestly don't know, which is why I CAN'T WAIT FOR FRIDAY! AHHHHHH!

Tell me about it. I really liked Point Pleasant and that got cancelled real damn quick. Invasion lasted only slightly longer.
Sci-Fi seems to do way better on cable... BSG, The Dead Zone, the 4400, Nightmares and Dreamscapes...

I don't watch BSG out of spite towards Sci-Fi for cancelling Farscape.

I heard a couple of comments that BG has Mormon overtones, which is kind of interesting since I lived with a Norman extremist for about 3-4 years. I am kind of curious of what they (if they exist) are.

No, that's protecting myself from getting into yet another show on Sci-Fi just so that it gets cancelled prematurely. Almost all the shows I like end early, Farscape, Angel, Futurama, Twin peaks, and now Blade, among many, many others. Meanwhile, there's been shows I liked that have extended beyond their ability to be entertaining, namely Simpsons, Family Guy, and That 70s Show.
I'm just sick of being jerked around by the networks. I have all my favorite tv shows on dvd, so I just watch them now. I basically just watch live tv for the news, sports, and nightly comedy shows now.

All right, my last post broke the forums. Let's try it again...
I feel your pain. Too often have I invested in a show to only have it cancelled after airing 3 of 9 episodes, 12 of 13, 24 of 24, etc. But I'd rather have lived and watched those shows, investing in them, than never watching them altogether.
Hence why I'm watching about 10 new shows this season. Not all of them are going to make it, I already know that. It's a gamble. Sometimes a new show is "Firefly" and worth watching and sometimes it's "Brothers and Sisters" and deserves to be trashed.
A "Reunion" type of situation can come up and a show gets cancelled before any answer is resolved, but I have to risk it. There really are a lot of good shows on right now and I will invest in any one that sounds remotely interesting. Ya never know what's in store.
Off your mentioning "Twin Peaks", I'm pissed as hell that the show never resolved the Bob/Agent Cooper plot line, but episode 14(?) wrapped up the first season well enough for me to take the second half of season 2 as a spinoff. David Lynch also left the show more or less (returning for the finale after nearly an entire season off) and that really helped lead to the show's end... not to mention the extreme drop in ratings. Both of which were valid reasons to drop the show, but the network (ABC?) could've at least given them a TV movie to end it (along with the feature film).
Off "Blade", does the cliffhanger really matter? I really wasn't bothered by it.

Naw, the cliffhanger on Blade doesn't matter. The guy playing Blade (I forget his name at the moment) wasn't good anyway. But I will miss the vampire culture storylines. Blade seemed like a side character in the show, and I liked it that way. It made me feel like I was watching a TV version of the PC Game "Vampire, The Masquerade: Bloodlines."
I agree with you on Twin Peaks. I'm mad that Lynch left, and then came back for the finale, only to create a cliffhanger that he refused to resolve fully in the movie later. There were bright spots in S2 though. However, I hated the James storyline, and I hated how they added Heather Graham as a love interest for Cooper instead of having him get with Audrey. Audrey's involvement in the events of the finale would have made a lot more sense than Heather Graham's character Annie being involved so deeply in that.
I have to say, I was tempted to watch some of the new shows this year, since so many sounded interesting to me, but work and trying to finish grad school have interfered. I did catch some of Jericho after dinner a few days ago though. I was intrigued by the concept, but the writing and acting were pretty bad.

Ooooooh, yeah, James' piss ass poor soap opera marriage ruining plot line... I totally forgot about that. I'd like to continue being ignorant that happened. I did love Josie ending up in a piece of wood and Windom Earle in log lady attire in season 2. That's some good television right there
"Jericho" I've been taping, but haven't found the time to watch yet.

Who's everyone's favorite character?
Mine is Gaius Baltar, by far. If they ever kill him off, I will completely lose interest in the show. This is known as the Tony Almeida effect.

Then later on they'll gas everyone on the ship, right?
I've only had a smattering of BSG since the two-part mini a couple years ago, so I haven't stuck with a character yet.
