Since my help with my last emulator search was useful, I think I'm going ot draw some water from the same well.

I'm looking for a good Atari 2600 (and more if possible) emulator that can play NTSC and PAL formats. Also, I prefer to be able to set-up the controls hopefully with controllers being read. Save States. Etc.

Mainly, I just want to delve into some old gaming as I never owned an Atari and haven't played one both in a long time and not very much.

I've already tried MESS and some other one that was terrible. Any help would be appreciated. ^_^

EDIT: Also, any game suggestions would be appreciated as well.

For an Atari emulator, I use Z26. Dunno if does any or all of the things you ask, but it works.

As for games, here are some suggestions:

River Raid
Riddle of the Sphinx
Ghostbusters
Demon Attack
Keystone Kapers
Pitfall
Adventure
Pole Position
Moon Patrol

Hmmm... I dunno. It's hard to come up with a list of good Atari 2600 games as most of the better games were arcade ports, including the games produced by Atari themselves. Then you have games like Ghostbusters which were released on other systems such as C64 as well.

Pretty much anything by Imagic is worth checking out, as is anything by Activision. They were considered the best of the third party Atari developers.

Also, to successfully play Riddle of the Sphinx, you will need to track down the instruction manual or a text equivalent thereof.

Definitly get E.T. Not only is it the most challenging game but if you beat it, when you tell normal gamers you beat it they won't believe you. Kinda like when murdar kept saying i beat skull & crossbones on a Rom.

Yea, later that day I ended up settling on the Stella one. I tried Z26, but it was too... muddy... in terms of options and most options had to be applied via the command line. I'm too lazy to deal with that. Stella has an excellent interface and it even has a debug type mode where you can see what's going on with all the variables. It's fantastic. Now, I just have to get some of the good games.

I did get E.T. based on nostalgia because when I did get to play Atari back in the day, that was one of the games I played. Even now that I'm 13 years older, I still don't get it. You walk around picking up candy while avoiding pits and Dick Tracy. Ugh.

I got a game called "Casino", but it only has blackjack on it. Fuckers.
