Oh my God, he's back.
Existentialism:
Nausea: Jean-Paul Sartre
Political Science/Current Events:
Legacy: Rich Lowry
Slouching Towards Gomorrah: Robert Bork
That's all I can think of right now because my head is too cluttered with disability insurance litigation crap from work. Maybe I'll list more when I get home and have looked over my bookshelves.

I'm not sure if glorified (read: paid) fanfic, no matter how well written, should go on a must-read list. What makes it special?
EDIT: Unless it's like, y'know, a Star Wars must-read list.

And it's not really "fanfic", while Lucas himself denies that anything written by anyone else is canon, he doesn't have any problem putting the Lucas seal of approval on a great many books.

After fucking up a great many Star Wars movies with shitty effects, I formed the opinion that Lucas has been hitting the Prozac too hard.

"Seize the Moment" by Dick Nixon. It's interesting to see what predictions he made about the Post-Cold War era came true and which didn't; also, what advice of his was followed and ignored, and what were the consequences - both positive and negative. The book proves Nixon's genius on foreign policy. It's just a shame that he didn't have the personality to be a good president, nor decent preconditions to work with in the internaional scene when he came into office.
