The show looks exceptionally well animated, but man is that writing terrible.
I haven't played a Sonic game since Adventure 2 got ported to the Gamecube, but it seems like Sonic has Rolling Stones syndrome. Sonic games are received like half-way decent albums by classic bands now past their prime. Every new release will be immediately hailed as "The best album since Some Girls," and then immediately forgotten about in two months.

CGI Cartoon Sonic looks decent.
Game Sonic looks like he has constipation.
Also, Knuckles' redesign actually looks great and makes sense for that matter, yet it's getting the most hate out of the Sonic fandom.

Further proof that Sega has no idea what to do with Sonic.

I'm not a huge fan of the Knuckles redesign, but the rest of it doesn't both me. The style is interesting, and if they can make the game look as good as the cartoon, I'm in.

I usually don't like the Sonic games of today but this one has piqued my interest.
Also Knuckles' design cracks me up for some reason.

Knuckles looks absolutely ridiculous (he's not the only one...)
Tails comes out of it the best, I think. And Sonic really needs to lose the stupid scarf...bandana...neckerchief? Whatever that thing is.
But I don't care for Sonic in 3D so, 'meh.'

Also, that dubstep is very cloying.

For the most part, the cartoon looks rather faithful to the games, much to my amazement; I seriously thought Sega was gonna totally fuck this up. Aside from the color of Sonic's arms being blue and the clothing differences, I'd have thought I was looking at a scene from one of the games. The character designs are about the same (except for Knuckles, judging from the game trailer), the personalities are roughly intact (with some semi-humorous quirks added in it seems), and the voices sound like the same voice actors from the games.
Not sure what to think of Knuckles' new beefed-up design--that's about the only thing that strays a little too far from the original source IMO. At least he's not that much bigger like I feared he would be, but I don't understand why they felt it necessary to bulk him up at all; I understand he's strong, but he never needed to actually look like it.
As for Amy's new look, I'm glad they at least kept her anatomy the same, and she still wears some kind of dress, although now it looks less frilly and more 'sporty', which I guess I'm fine with if it makes her more appropriate to be a playable character. Also glad they kept her hammer.
Sonic having his blue fur extend to his arms seems a little out-of-place to me, but what looks even weirder are those things that appear to be bandages on his wrists and shoes... Why the hell does he have those? His neckerchief, fine; Tails' goggles, okay, he flies a plane; Amy's new dress, see above; but bandages? I don't see the appeal...
Tails seems to be about the same with the addition of goggles. Again, I'm okay with the goggles, but what happened to the Tornado? Is this a new model?
Eggman's lower torso seems to have narrowed a tad. Whatever, he's still a fat guy so he still's the same to me.
Overall, I'm pleased with what I've seen so far. If the producers can stay faithful to the formula that makes Sonic great, if the voice actors can maintain a good performance and if they can write the show well enough without making it look too silly, I can actually see myself supporting this new cartoon and game after all and even forgive the unnecessary changes. Here's to hoping.
BTW, as far as I'm aware the design changes are exclusive only to this cartoon and game and aren't expected to carry over to future Sonic media. It's kind of a spin-off.

Yeah, this isn't meant to be the ONE TRUE SONIC. It's a spin-off series meant at introducing Sonic to a new generation of Western children. If it becomes popular enough, I suppose it could become the ONE TRUE SONIC, but that's not currently the intent.

I'm sure I've said this before, but I refuse to acknowledge the name 'Eggman.' Dr. Robotnik until the day I die.

I have no idea what name you refuse to acknowledge, because I don't see anything after the word name in what you typed.

I think I am officially done playing any future Sonic games after watching that video. Plenty of other games to play.

BUMP. So I rented and beat both the Wii U title and the 3DS title. I really don't see the problem with the former, as I quite enjoyed the experience. Ditto the latter, minus the alleged problems. I initially thought one led into the other, but they actually take place in different continuities, so any sequels either game spawns would be part of that series alone. In any case, I think I'm adequately prepared for when Teletoon inevitably picks up the TV series.
