This looks so disappointing. I've never been less excited by a trailer for a new main series Mario game.

Ah, the sequel to Super Mario 3D Land. Well, at least until they both get sequels...

It looks incredibly bland. It has no character at all.

Yeah, I'm incredibly bored just looking at that.
Call me picky, call me fickle or whatever but I think literally every Nintendo fan expected some big announcements and we didn't get any. We got a sequel to a marginally good 3DS game, Smash Bros. which everyone expected and Mario Kart 8 which looks awesome, but everyone expected.
Wonderful 101 frankly looks goofy and boring, Bayonetta 2 just isn't my thing, but Xenoblade Whatever looks like hot shit.
Overall, I'm bored. Give us something Nintendo, fucking tell us something.

It's not what I wanted, but it looks damn fun.
Any of you guys play Mario 3D Land? That game was fucking amazing. This looks like an even better version.
Got it with my 3DS Christmas before last. Wasn't disappointed.

Haven't played Super Mario 3D Land. I just think the trailer looks like bland green areas, and the graphics for the most part are really shiny HD with no real character. The snake boss looked nice, but I don't see any of the magic that Galaxy/ Galaxy 2 brought to the table. Mario games to me are as much about the sense of atmosphere as they are about the jumping, and this trailer was wholly without atmosphere. Also, nothing they showed looked challenging at all. Granted, this is the first peak, and there might be awesome stuff we haven't seen, but don't you think an E3 showcase ought to blow you away, not leave you thinking, "Oh, I get to play run down narrow corridors and slowly jump from enemyless block to enemyless block while looking at some grass?"

My only problem with this is that it isn't a 3D Mario per se.
It looks great, I've played 3D Land (only hope is that the levels aren't as easy as in 3D Land). However It isn't the same as Galaxy, Sunshine or 64. There's something about it, I think it's the camera angles.

My guess would be that it is harder, if the difficulty jump between NSMB2 and NSMBU is any indication. I think Nintendo is currently operating under the assumption that the average console gamer is older than the average portable gamer, and designing accordingly.

Yeah I agree. NSMBU definitely had more difficult levels than NSMB2.

So, how about the Cat Suit? Won't it be nice to have guaranteed perfect goals?

Yeah that kind of bothers me. However i think it's been a problem since the introduction of the 1up for the top of the life pole.
I have something like 100 lives in Super Mario 3D Land because of this. It just trivialises the whole game. In these games you can at least miss it but with the cat suit in the new game it seems like a cert to get a 1up if you can just climb up the pole and get it.

My thoughts exactly. That looks like a hell of a lot of fun, and I'm kinda glad to see Peach and Toad playable ala SMB2.
The emphasis on cat suits is fucking weird, thought. JAPAN!

I for one think it looks awesome, and I love the connection to SMB2 (with the characters and their abilities).
Definitely agreed with this. Any Mario game that has the SMB2 gang and what looks like all of their abilities intact (or at the very least, Peach's floating ability) is okay in my book. They do seem to introduce two or three new suits at a time with these now, so I'm rather curious what else will be new other than the cat suit.

not gonna lie, this new trailer got me even more excited for the game. i might pick up a wii u now due to this, especially since they have that new bundle coming out: New Super Mario Bros & Luigi now packed with 32GB Wii U http://x.co/2e0AA
I love how Bowser just kidnaps someone else, despite Peach being right there. Personally, I'd be equal parts relieved and jealous, but at least it gives her another rare chance to flex.

Hmm, that looks more interesting than the last few games they've done, I kind of want to play this one.

destructoid just released its review.... i know some of you dont care for them, but its not a bad read. they are calling it one of the best mario games in a long time and its making me really want to buy a wii u.
granted, i was going to eventually purchase a wii u for smash bros, but now im thinking of buying it just for this game.
