So, I'm pretty excited, if anything can rip gaming away from Microsoft it is valve.
They also mention that games will just straight up run faster on steamOS, I'm curious on how that works.

Simply. Open up your task manager some time. See all those processes running? Most streamlined Linux distros only have about a dozen running on a clean install, instead of the 30+ WIN has.

Less background processes = More CPU & RAM available for programs to take advantage of.

I'm assuming the "Steambox" will mostly be a box that hooks to your TV that you can stream your computer games from your PC to. If that's the case, I fully support it. It'd be neat to kick back on the couch and play whatever games you have rather than hunched over your computer like some nerd monster. And yes, I realize you can hook up a PC to your TV just as easy, but not many people realistically want to do that and the streaming option seems a bit more streamlined and easier.

My understanding is that there will be no first party "Steambox" put out by Valve, so we'll see how this goes.

I hope if there is a "Steambox" that is just their codename and the official name is Sauna.

Problem I believe is that if the game in question doesn't have a linux port already them your out of luck.

SteamOS is basically Linux with a Valve frontend.
