How rare is this game and just how good is it really? I am just curious because I had personally never seen the cart, nor the cart art even, until the other day when I went to the new vintage video game store. I had heard a lot about it but had never seen it ever so it seemed quite rare to me (same with DWII, only ever seen DWI in person).
My question is, is it rare enough and/or good enough for 74.99 CDN? Check the conversion for USD, it'll be fairly close though. That seems like a lot for an NES game. I'm asking here because it sounds like some members grew up with this game or at least other Dragon Warrior games. I didn't and as a result respect but can't fully get into the older jrpgs, but for those that still love playing them to this day, is that anywhere near being a fair price?

I absolutely love the Dragon Warrior(Quest) series and that game is the best in my opinion as far as the NES games go. A true epic. Up until last year I still had my original copy. I have seen it as low as $50 (USD) recently, but 75 is worth it in my opinion.

That's a fair price.
I disagree with atomjacked, in that I prefer Dragon Warrior III. The chapter-based story in DW4 was a little off-putting to me. It's still a great game, but III felt more epic to me.

I love III way more as well. That game just never gets old to me.

I actually prefer 4, it's the start of the Zenithian trilogy for one. The chapter system allowed you to focus on the different party members you would eventually lead. I should mention that while I've played every main-numbered Dragon Quest title except for V (due to circumstances), IV was the only one that I've had to play via emulator.

The first Dragon Warrior sucked so hard I never bothered with any of the sequels. But, hey maybe they get better. Everyone says III is so great, maybe I'll have to try it someday.

My bad, I had 3 and 4 mixed up as it has been years since I have played either. I though 3 was the one with different chapters for some reason. 4 is still a really great game, and was such a different experience back when I first played it. I still think it is worth that asking price as well, as it is pretty hard to come by.

By far one of my favorite RPG's ever. Considering I got about $50 just for the Instructions and maps (never found a salvagable box) I'd say that is fair market value. The Rerelease on DS does the original justice if you can't get behind the 8-bit graphics. Some of my favorite childhood memories circle around that game.
