It was just announced during a Nintendo Direct. I'm sure Earthbound carts all over the world just dropped in price ridiculously.

Not necessarily. Final Fantasy 4/6 are widely available on a variety of platforms, SNES carts are still valuable.
But hooray. Now they just need to bring us Mother 3, which I totally haven't already played a fan translation of.

I was far more excited by A Link to the Past 2 than by the opportunity to spend money on a game I've already beaten perhaps half a dozen times.

But not Earthbound valuable. I see II and III in game shops all over for like 20 or 30 bucks. That's not valuable, that's dirt cheap compared to 100 bucks or more for an out of box SNES cart.
I remember copies of Final Fantasy VII were like 60 or 70 bucks at one point, and when it was released on PSN, the price dropped all over. I see it regularly out at game shops for about the same as the others, 20 or 30 bucks. I'd say a digital release will at least bring the demand and price down some.

With this, I'll have a legitimate reason to add Mother to my Powerpak, like I did for the first two Ys games when I got an Ys III cartridge.

I have mixed feelings about LTTP2. If it's following Nintendo's general sequel Zelda strategy and/or portable Zelda strategy, that means no Ganon. Also, the art style is pretty meh. I mean, I'll BUY it, but I really wish it was sprites. Ever since the 3DS came out, I've been imagining what LTTP would look like in sterescopic 3D, especially the Lost Woods. GUESS I'LL NEVER FUCKING KNOW.
I'm getting kinda sick of this bullshit. There is ZERO reason that a game that uses a 2D perspective needs to have 3D character models, especially when sprites will look MUCH crisper on the 3DS screen. This bugs me about the NSMB games as well.

Very impressive, as I had believed the copyright concerns (music, et cetera) would prevent this from happening. Hooray, I say! Also, A Link to the Past 2 looks interesting, I will miss the sprites but I'm sure the game will be solid.

They released Aero Fighters for the Wii Virtual Console, but I still see that cartridge going online for about $100.
I snagged a copy for fifty cents at Roses.

im not digging the art style either. i would prefer sprites as well, but i still welcome a new portable entry into the zelda universe. as long as it doesnt have stylus controls like phantom hourglass or spirit tracks, then im in.
i am rather excited it will take place in the same universe though:

I wonder if Nintendo did this as a response to the rather lackluster sales of the Wii U.
Still, this is great news because now it'll be possible for average Americans (and Europeans) to play the game without having to resort to either emulation or shelling out $100+
...Unless Nintendo really screws this up over legal issues by making so many changes and omissions that suck the flavor out of the original game.
On the topic of LttP 2, yeah I'm not too thrilled about the new 3D graphics either. I would've preferred good old 2D SNES graphics. I'll still keep checking on it though.

I'm very much glad that it's coming to the Virtual Console. Earthbound has to be the most obnoxiously overpriced game ever. Seriously, go to eBay and search "Earthbound" and "Mother 2" separately. The Japanese version, complete with box, manual and original plastic wrap is still cheaper than the American version with no box. It's highway robbery!

Nintendo could find themselves in a bit of trouble. It's surprising to me that they didn't meet their expectations with their sales so far. Now the Playstation 4 is on the horizon and from everything I've gathered so far it seems like they are handling things very well, which is a vast improvement from how they handled the release of the PS3. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I'm beginning to feel a trickle of unease when I think about the big N's future. I hope its nothing, but I'm starting to wish they would have just held off on trying to be the first next-gen console released to the public and took some time to develop more 1st party titles and possibly create something more revolutionary as they did with the Wii.
I grew up with Nintendo as a huge part of my life, and I suppose my fears at this point are probably irrational. However, if something doesn't make the Wii U more appealing, the PS4 will most likely take over the industry. I believe this generation of the console wars will belong to Sony...

Nintendo fell behind Sony in the '90s. They didn't collapse then and they won't now.

I just worry about Nintendo, God knows why though. I guess because I grew up loving their consoles and game I would just hate to see them befall the same fate as Sega. Granted, Sega fucked up bigtime, but these days the console wars are different. Also, now Sony and Microsoft seem to be following Nintendo's lead by trying to appeal to a wider audience by adding more innovations aside from better graphics.
I know it's way too early to be making such hasty judgements, but I really thought the Wii U would sell much better than it has so far. Perhaps I'm not seeing all the variables though.

A fanmade Mother 4 is currently scheduled for release in August: http://mother4.andonuts.net/
You know, until Nintendo sues and stuff.
Also: the group responsible for the Mother 3 English fan translation has offered to let Nintendo use their translation for free to try and entice them to put the game on the 3DS eShop.

Wii U has outpaced what PS3 and 360 sold within similar time frames, but are nowhere near Wii sales. Wii was a fad though, a con, a grift, and no home console will ever sell as fast as that did ever again.
When PS4 and 720 debut, at reportedly higher prices, except equally slow sales.
