Not sure what everyone's opinion is of bluegrass here, but there's an awesome (and FREE) album download here from Farmageddon Records. It's basically a big sampler album to promote their festival later in the year.

Huge fan of Newgrass Revival for the 80's side, and the usual 50's and 60's icons. The newer wave of hipster bluegrass and folk punk stuff annoys me to no end though.

I echo these sentiments, but I'm gonna throw in some love for that middle period in the 70s that birthed Peter Rowan, David Grisman, etc.

I can respect that sentiment. I'm a pretty big fan of the punk/bluegrass stuff, myself. Even still, there's some other stuff hidden in there. Black Eyed Vermillion makes me think of Tom Waits at times and ANTiSEEN is just sort of like dirty punk. They're both on there.

I love traditional bluegrass. Most anything recorded between the 1920s and the 70s was great. There are still a lot of great performers out there doing that kind of stuff today, and the Bluegrass station on SiriusXM is one of my presents.
I highly recommend Russel Moore and the IIIrd Tyme Out. It's really good, traditional style bluegrass.
Not a big fan of this fusion stuff, though.

I'm a huge Sam Bush fan, as well as Bela Fleck. I was born in the early 80's, so that kind of bluegrass/rock revival was just becoming a thing, as well as growing up on the traditional stuff, so Newgrass Revival is always my go-to "good mood music" selection. Just fantastic stuff.
Here is Newgrass Revival from 1984:

You know how does really kickass bluegrass (and has an album coming out later this year)? Steve Martin. Like...the actor. He's always been a banjo player, and he's actually won a couple of Grammys for his work in the genre. Definitely worth listening to.

Yep, here he is with Bela Fleck, who I just linked when he was a teenager with Newgrass Revival, lol.
