The new Director is happy, as most would be, to be free of Silent Hill for the time being. "While I do hope to get back to horror someday in the future, I'm an avid fan of most genres," Hulett said. "During my time at Konami, I spearheaded Rocket Knight, and of course Contra 4 – with WayForward! – so I'm looking forward to escaping Silent Hill for a bit and exploring the rest of the gaming landscape again."

After the utter crapfests that were Silent Hill: Book of Memories and Silent Hill: HD Collection, and the mediocrity of Silent Hill: Downpour, maybe my favorite game franchise will actually be good again.

I'll never forget sidewaydriver saying that the monster designs in Downpour made him think of "Down With The Sickness" whenever he saw them. Still makes me lol.

I think I was just feeling all hyped up because they didn't utterly ruin it like I was afraid they would. I think the story, dialogue, sidequests, and some of the Otherworld sequences are fantastic, but the combat is quite awful (which is kind of the point, yes, but that doesn't make it any less unpleasant), most of the puzzles are boring, and the music isn't even close to being as good as the music in the previous games.

I don't know all that much about the Silent Hill series, but I have started playing Silent Hill 2 (HD) at a bud's house and made it to the Pyramidhead man apartment scene. Pretty great so far. Could someone explain the negativity towards the HD re-release? My friend and I recall that there was a stint on whether the original voices would've been included, but they indeed are selectable and I've found the game to be pretty enjoyable (with no prior experience on the original PS2 version).

this blog entry will highlight some details as to why the remakes were no good

Konami makes a lot of crap these days. Hideo Kojima should leave as well. I am tired of so many damn Metal Gear games.

Thanks for the link, username. I'll have to show it to my bud. We're on the PS3.version and not everything matches the article (fog is heavy throughout the game), but I can still see how aesthetic errors can ruin a well-established environment. Also, the last comment reveals that the remaster is not based on the master files but rather an earlier build...

It's mainly got to do with the fact that the graphics and audio are so buggy that it almost ruins the game entirely. The water effects look like someone used the gradient effect in Microsoft Powerpoint on a grey background, music doesn't loop in the right place (or sometimes at all), a bunch of the ambient sounds were removed altogether, the graphics have clipping problems that weren't present before, the new voice acting for SH3 blows, etc.

Don't know what this means. Downpour seemed promising and had creative bits, but I couldn't stay with it. I'm not going into Shattered Memories without writing a whole damned book weighing what I liked and didn't. I've seen massive write-ups on how bad they fucked up the HD remakes. I don't know how much of it was under this guy's control, or if they were restricted by Konami, were the devs unproven, did they bring in the right writers, etc. Maybe, if anything, Konami will take it as a sign.
As for the remakes, I remember seeing a video for them, and not only did they remove the fog from the town, it actually enables you to see the skybox and outside the level. Don't know how rampant the latter is, but the former is just bewildering.
