Real simple question: Who is your favorite video game villian?

Despite my desire to avoid being cliche, my love for Final Fantasy 7 forces me to choose Sephiroth. The backstory and character development in that game was top notch, so I have a hard time picking someone other than Sephiroth....

Except for maybe Boo. Boo is the little ghost in the Mario games known for attacking you when you turn your back on him. Fun fact: I'm getting Boo tattooed on my calf next month, kind of as a symbol of my childhood playing video games. Plus I don't think many people have a Boo tattoo.

Thou, because I am wroth, be not dismayed, for I shall win the strife, whoever circle round within for the defence. This their insolence is not new, for of old they used it at a less secret gate, which still is found without a bolt. Above it thou didst see the dead inscription; and already on this side of it
descends the steep, passing without escort through the circles,
One such that by him the city shall be opened to us.

I like no-frills bad guys that, instead of sitting around their pink satin upholstered lair, applying cosmetics, and reciting their master plan in haiku form like many new villians seem to do, get out there and take some action. The ones that don't mind getting their hands dirty.

Like Bowser: Bowser abducts Peach time and time again, even though he's always foiled. A lot of the things he says really crack me up too! Big, determined monster villians need to be in more videogames these days.

In the olden days, Donkey Kong was a pretty good villian. He didn't send henchmen after Jumpman and then become increasingly worried as they failed steadily, he started hurling barrels like there was no tomorrow- and how many stages did it take for him to get caught?! That's pretty good for an ape!

A ape villian that mystifies me though, is Andross from Starfox. What the hell did he ever do besides appear sinisterly on the Game Over screen or spew cubes at you in the final battle? I suppose all those little enemies in the game were his army or something, but most of those things could be taken down in one shot! Who could ever believe they would actually succeed with a load of wimpy little flying things like those?

I'm a Liquid Snake fan, mainly because Leonardo does his voice. That and he's evil, but still good looking.

Um, I'll say Vladimir Lem was a villain I felt personal betrayed by. That's right, I didn't see it coming, sue me...

Scissorman - time to get old school. This tiny man makes up for something with his GIANT PAIR OF SCISSORS!!! Also, a great XTC song.

I'm kinda against video game tattoos, but even I'll admit that Boo is a pretty cool idea.

My favorite video game villains tend to be the persistent ones. I mark out for lovable failures like Bowser, Dr. Wily, and Dr. Robotnik, who I will never ever call Dr. Eggman.

Also:
Krang & Shredder in the original TMNT arcade game
Shang Tsung, particularly his MK:DA incarnation
M. Bison

Dr.Robotnik for sure (with you on the "no Eggman" thing. )
the machines and bosses he spawns are not only difficult but also fun to play and very clever. plus the last battles are all really epic with him (especially sonic 2,with the whole death egg level with the big crazy robot he builds. Awesome!)

I am a worthless piece of crap.

For me, Sonic died after & Knuckles. The series could just not gain back the epic scope that game with Sonic 3 had. Sonic CD I'll count as being in the "good" years, but not Chaotix or 3D Blast or any other crazy sonic games. Sonic Spinball... I leave that up to you to decide.

Kefka (Sephiroth never had a wicked laugh), Sigma (another persistent villain), and I suppose Krellian from Xenogears.

My favorite villians in games have always been the nonspecific ones. The alien morphs from Flashback are a favorite villain of mine, as well as the varying species of aliens in the X-com games for PC. As far as specific guys go, Robotnik takes first place for me, mainly because I loved destroying his crappy inventions.

Of course I'm a fan of many of the favorites already mentioned for the same reasons: Bowser, Wily, Robotnik, Shredder (Fuck you Syd, I didn't think anyone would beat me to him), and all the other hands on villians. I really liked Andross in Starfox 64 too. Another boss that gets much love but hasn't been mentioned yet is Mouser from Mario 2/Doki Doki Panic.

Know what my favorite ones are though? They're the enemies that I was scared shitless of. The ones that made me scream like a little girl as a kid, or that I absolutely hated having to deal with because I found them difficult. These include but are not limited to:
The Sun (Mario 3)
Baron von Blubba (Bubble Bobble)
Super Drunk (Bubble Bobble)
Phanto (Mario 2)

Some of my favorites have already been mentioned, i.e. Kefka, Super Drunk.

I'll have to think here...

Chaos from FFI - I have not yet heard duplicated nor pre-used the notion of trapping a world inside a 2000 year loop. That has to be one of my favorite concepts for an RPG. There wasn't much detail, but for an NES game, it was awesome. Chaos/Garland rocks for this reason, that and his hit points coincidentally corresponded with the number of years in the time loop (Stupid, but I love coincidences).

Mother Brain from Super Metroid - She turned into a dinosaur. Sure, some might consider it weak, but I thought it was awesome, mainly because I was really into dinosaurs when I was younger. That and that's when the touching moment with the metroid happens and you get the kick-ass Hyper Beam.

Guardian and Chupon from Final Fantasy VI - They whooped your ass. They were ultimate. ACHOO!

RIP Hacker.

Magus from Chrono Trigger. He kicked all sorts of ass.

Sephiroth - Come on, The guy was pure sadistic fuckin' crazyass Evil. He oozed Evil, he made Kefka look like a choir boy. He owned.

Jenova - See above.

Dracula/Death/Shaft - The Castlevania games ruled. Especially Symphony of the Night.

Cyber Demon - This guy was a fuck. I mean, the level where he is a boss you can hear him stompin' around the whole fuckin' level. And unlike the Spider Mastermind, he didn't just die like a little bitch.

The final boss of Sunset Riders - Sure, I don't remember his name, but I blocked him out because of the shear torment he caused me. That fuckin' douchebag tricked me. For anyone who has played this, it was on the SNES, and the final boss is kind of a bitch(or he was when I used to play it when I was like eight). Anyways, you kill him, finally, and you shout for joy and then he pulls out a piece of Metal from his jacket and you have to do the whole thing over again. Fuckin' bastard.

I was also a big fan of the Pac-Man ghosts in the secret level from Episode 3: Die Fuhrer, Die!

That was copyright infringement at its best.

Rantei from Shenmue. No other antagonist has every made me feel as emotionally connected to the main character. And after the confusingly obvious revelations in part 2, seeing him at the end made me tear up... in a manly way, of course.

Actually, Robotnik has already been mentioned, but I'm a big fan of Shadow as well, since he's technically a villian. I don't care about storylines in games that much, but Shadow's levels in the Sonic Adventure games tended to be the most fun, and that makes him great in my book.

THE CYBERDEMON.
just hearing his foot step is really awesome, i like this villain, especially into the last level of the second episode from the original Doom.

TYSON. the 8bits picture of him in the game is the sickest avatar of all the punch-out's opponent.

and all the villains already named in the thread (special mention include bowser, hitler in wolf3d, dr willy)

old skewl gamer.
