From http://www.gamespot.com/news/6165459.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=newstop&tag=newstop;title;6 :

"Rockstar Games today announced that it is working on a sequel to Manhunt, the violent 2003 stealth action game that cast players as a death-row inmate forced to run a sadistic gauntlet of armed killers. Manhunt 2 is expected to release this summer for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, and the Wii, where it will be the first Rockstar title for Nintendo's new platform.

Development on the game is a family affair for the company. Rockstar has confirmed it as the debut title for Rockstar London, which is working in conjunction with Rockstar North, the studio responsible for the first Manhunt, and Rockstar Leeds. Rockstar Toronto is also getting into the act by handling development of the Wii version of the game.

"With Manhunt 2 we have tried to create a game that stays close to the original concept of chilling suspense and stealth, whilst pushing the game design and storytelling forward," said Rockstar cofounder Sam Houser.

In 2004, the parents of a murdered 14-year-old blamed their son's death on Manhunt, saying his 17-year-old killer was influenced by the game's brutality. UK retailer Dixons pulled the game from its shelves in the wake of the attack, while a spokesperson for rival retailer HMV said his chain experienced significantly increased demand for the game in the wake of the tragedy. Police went on record as saying the game hadn't been connected to the boy's death, and the killer's motive was actually robbery.

Manhunt 2 has not yet been rated by the ESRB."

The Godfather: The Blackhand Edition as well as a port of Scarface: The World Is Yours have been confirmed for the Wii as well. I'm pretty sure Nintendo has finally sucessfully busted its "kiddy system" label.

I don't trust rockstar to make fun games. I trust them to make a game with a bunch of stuff in it, but not one that's actually fun to play.

There’s a Manhunt 2 Sweepstakes afoot and as expected, things have gotten bloody, or rather a thing has gotten bloody. In this case it’s a Nintendo Wii. Rockstar, the studio behind the raucous slaughterfest, has teamed up with the Radio Rebellion Tour for the sweepstakes and as a result one grand prize winner will receive a Wii that looks like a teenage camp counselor after encountering a very angry Jason Voorhees.

Rockstar still getting owned in the UK. From the BBC:
Quote:
Censors have rejected a revised version of computer game Manhunt 2 which was blamed by a schoolboy's parents for his murder - a claim dismissed by police.
The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) first banned the game in June, saying it "constantly encourages visceral killing".

Manufacturers Rockstar Games made changes but censors still had concerns.

The original game was attacked by the parents of Stefan Pakeerah, fatally stabbed in Leicester in February 2004.

Manhunt 2 was the first video game in a decade to be refused classification.

Rockstar submitted a revised version but BBFC director David Cooke said that "we do not consider that these [changes] go far enough to address our concerns about the original version.

"The impact of the revisions on the bleakness and callousness of tone, or the essential nature of the gameplay, is clearly insufficient.

"There has been a reduction in the visual detail in some of the 'execution kills', but in others they retain their original visceral and casually sadistic nature."
