I don't know much about this kind of stuff, but would it be possible to get the video embedding upgraded? I know we're supposed to use "old embed" code for Youtube videos, but it's been kind of a crapshoot with Youtube lately, no to mention that many sites don't even give the option.
So here's to you Mrs. Robinson. People love you more- oh, nevermind.

Almost all "OLD" code still ends up being what is used, except they use an iFrame around it.
So, if you know what you are doing, you can always embed the video.
As far as YouTube goes, they offer the feature. What other site has video that you can't embed. I might be able to show an example of how to work around it.

Vimeo was one I was trying to embed for the Indie Topic, and inspired this topic.

Click the "Share" button on a video.
Click "+Customize Embed Options"
Click "Old embed code"
Copy and paste the code.

YouTube doesn't seem to have the "old embed code" option anymore. This is a problem.

You can always do the [YT:bfacc3f385][/YT:bfacc3f385] code and have it drop down spoiler-ish, but really, that shouldn't be necessary. Something needs to be done.

That's what I was thinking. For the past few months it's seemed like more and more videos are losing the option.

We could always just upgrade the board software to support iFrames.

Doesn't that just scream 'insecure' to you?
Right now the bbcode is the secure way to do it. Any thoughts about this Syd?
By the way, this problem persists on PHPBB3, it isn't an "old software thing" it is an iframe security thing.

I didn't actually mean it, you know. To be honest, I thought it was insecure enough to support HTML at all, just because prior to registering here, no forum I've ever visited supported it. I just got the idea that it wasn't something you enable unless your specific community needed it for a good reason.

I think youtube got rid of it entirely. I can't find any videos that use the old embed code option.

Well maybe iFrames wouldn't be so insecure if all of you quit saying negative things about it all the time. Words hurt, you know.

What are iFrames supposed to be for, if that's the case? It sure sounds like there's nothing good about them at all.

They shift the responsibility of linked content to the content provider.
Object Embed code puts the responsibility of display on the developer of the site, not the content.

Does HTML5 favor iFrames over <object> or something?
