I just found it funny that rather than land or sea travel they strapped it to the top of a plane. The whole thing just makes me imagine a little kid going "I know I know! Tie it to a plane!"

But knowing NASA they probably balanced and cross checked everything to make sure it was as aerodynamic as possible

I don't see what's so funny either. That is how they have always transported the shuttle over long distances.

Yeah, I thought that's how they got the Enterprise in the air to test its landing.

When the shuttles would land somewhere other than Florida due to weather issues they would fly it back to the cape on top of a jet like that.
