sooo this august I am going to be in Chicago for a week, ive never been to the USA before, I am hoping the warmer climate doesnt cause me to melt although ive heard the weather in Chicago is as miserable as Edmonton.

Are there any recommendations on things I should do?

I would love to find an awesome place for pizza, well any restaurant in general and just take in the sights of the windy city

oh

and I am going to Lollapalooza Very Happy

but since that is music related I would prefer to just ask about Chicago itself

Let's assume it's a mixture of the two!

About the only things I like about Chicago are the Museum of Science and Industry and the Field Museum and this two story arcade called Gameworks. I have limited knowledge of places to eat and clubs/bars since I rarely visit the place even though I've lived in the same state for most of my life. Only really been there 5 or 6 times visiting family or friends.

I guess if you like baseball, you might check out Wrigley Field and watch the Cubs lose. There's also the Sears Tower, though they renamed it to something else a few years back.

I definitely want to see the museum of industry and science, a cubs game might not be a bad idea either

For pizza, be sure to take a trip to either Lou Malnati's, Uno's, Giordano's or Gino's East.

For fast food, you have to go to Portillo's. Best hot dogs around.

For museums, I love the Adler Planetarium.

Screw the Cubs, watch the only true major league baseball team in the city, the White Sox. Their stadium is much more modern, and there's actually parking for it. There's an El stop and a Metra stop right by it too.

Also, it will indeed be hot here in Chicago in August. We get the full range of extreme weather here. In the winter, it gets very cold, dipping below 0 Farenheit (I imagine Edmonton gets colder, though), and in the summer it can easily get over 100 Farenheit.

Giordano'sis good, if I remember right. There's also this awesome pizza place off of Cicero somewhere, but I forgot where it was or what it's called... so there's that. I like to visit Wrigley Field every few years to spit on the statue of Ernie Banks, but aside from that, avoid the Cubs whenever possible.

In other news, Canada deems magnets witchcraft.

Check out Kuma's Corner, if you find yourself in the mood for a gourmet burger, I /highly/ recommend it, pinup art on the walls, rockin tunes, delicious microbrews, and all the burgers are named after metal bands! http://www.kumascorner.com/food#burgers the make your own gourmet mac n cheese bar is /fantastic/ as well.
Anne Sather is the place to go for breakfast, complimentary cinnamon rolls & good breakfast fare. Another good breakfast place is "Over Easy" on Damen, in between Argyle and Ainslie.
For Pizza, Lou Malnati's, Giordano's, and Gino's East are great, Pizzeria Uno & Pizzeria Due are...meh.
For Hot Dogs, I recommend: Hot Doug's, Superdawg, Vienna Beef on Damen.
Sushi: Sushi Para II, Shiroi Hana (which is right nextdoor to the awesome "Chicago Comics" comic book shop), Ora, Toro, and House of Sushi & Noodles (all are relatively close together)

The Museum of S & I is a fun visit (my favorite exhibit is the German U-Boat, U-505), as is the Adler Planetarium, Field Museum, and the Shedd Aquarium (check out the dolphin show there) As far as zoos go, there are 2, the Brookfield Zoo, and Lincoln Park Zoo, Brookfield is more of a tourist trap, I'd recommend checking out LPZ, the plus side is that LPZ is free admission everyday! Navy Pier is quite an entertaining place, you can also get a water taxi to the Shedd Aquarium From there.

A Cubs game is always a good time, the place is packed every home game, more than I can say for those on the South side...Razz and the neighborhood it's located in (Lakeview/Wrigleyville) is a bustling community with lot's of things to do and see

Sears/Willis Tower skydeck & The John Hancock Building, while highly touristy are still cool things to check out.

Chinatown is pretty fun, if a bit tourist-y in some spots, also, the area surrounding Chinatown is a /dump/, Dim Sum on Sunday at Phoenix Restaurant is the /shit/.

Being a fellow musician, I recommend checking out "The Chicago Music Exchange", huge independent instrument shop, they have some really cool stuff, also being your 1st trip to the US, maybe check out the Guitar Center on Halsted (afaik large music retail shops are a uniquely US thing... I think)

Plenty of cool Bars all around the city, a few of the neighborhoods to check out for nightlife: Wicker Park/Bucktown, Lakeview, Lincoln Park,, and River North. A personal favorite place of mine is The Kingston Mines in Lincoln Park, a blues bar with live blues bands on 2 stages, looking for something smaller, there's a blues bar across the street called "Blues", among the other 30 or more watering holes in close proximity (it's like, 2 blocks away from Depaul University) other notables in the area are Delilah's (Recommend checking this one out), Aliveone, Hidden Shamrock, Trinity, Galway Bay, Lion's Head Pub. and Victory Liquors among many others.

If you visit an American city, you will find it very pretty.
Just two things of which you must beware: don't drink the water and don't breathe the air.

Here's a link to a discussion of pizza places in Chicago: http://www.avclub.com/chicago/articles/aarpizza-chicagoland-pizzerias-more-than-50-years,72789/

The last one listed, Aurelio's, is my favorite. There was one near my childhood home in the south suburbs, actually right next to the high school.

Leona's is a great restaurant, but I've never ordered pizza there. Their sandwiches are just too good. The service at my local one sucks, though.

well, in four days I shall embark on my first ever adventure to the United States of America, armed with nothing but a magic sword and boomerang I will scour the streets of Chicago to gather the pieces of the tri-force, destroy the evil wizard ganon and rescue the princess of Canada.

Just the occasional lakitu, which is another reason guns are needed. Can't reach them with swords.

If you're still interested in finding good pizza places, it's a shame you won't be visiting NYC, which is the pizza capital in all the US.
